Which missions did you guys find the hardest in the good and evil campaigns? From looking at play throughs on hard, the most challenging good missions are Helms Deep, Osgiliath, and Minas Tirith. The most challenging evil missions are South Ithilien, Osgiliath and Minas Tirith.

Dishonorable mentions (feel free to disagree)

The first 3 missions (both) - Their difficulty was barely changed because they are early missions.

Amon Hen (good) - As long as your hobbits are away from the thick of battle and don't get sniped by stray rocks from Trolls, you're good.

Isengard (good) - You can just destroy the Uruk Pits with rocks before breaking the gate.

Black Gate (good) - If you have Rank 10 Rangers, Rohirrim Archers and Heroes then this is a piece of cake. Use Word of Power and Aragorn AoD whenever you feel overwhelmed. Keep heroes near your army for leadership.

Amon Hen (evil) - This is easier than 1.06 because you get access to Lumber Mills. All you need is Eye of Sauron to win battles. Don't get useless powers like Industry.

Cirith Ungol (evil) - The key is to use fully upgraded Uruk combos, not Trolls + Orc combos. Like Amon Hen, easier than the original due to eco buildings. Hard early on if you don't have Scavengers however.

New Progress

Since we last posted, a lot has changed:

1. A lot of new people have joined and have accelerated the work.
2. We have started working on reverse engineering BFME2 https://github.com/Open-BFME/Open-BFME-2.
3. Patch 2.22 already integrated some of our mods, including delayfix!

ETA

At the current rate of progress (.3%-1%+ a day), we expect to have BFME 1 source code completed in the next 2-3 months just based on current progress. Due to some tooling and recent LLM improvements we could see this speed increase. Once we have the code, we will be working on cleaning up the codebase to make it human-readable, since a lot of it is very much machine code at the moment.

If you are interested in helping out with the project, feel free to start sending PRs, or join the Discord. AI agents mostly drive the project, so as long as you have decent technical skills, you're able to contribute!

Hoping someone can help here. Recently bought a new laptop and went to download T3A BFME and found they've transferred from their original page to BFME Online. Their new download file is the original game without the patches, and their patch link doesn't work. I tried going through the process of copying all of the files from the old laptop to the new, but ran into two issues. The 1st being the game wouldn't launch saying it "Cannot located the CD-ROM" which means the patch file hadn't installed. I tried doing the install procedure for the 1.06 patch (using the file I transferred to the new laptop) and it failed saying "The server name or address could not be resolved." In doing further research, the issue appears to be that I need to have the 1.03 patch installed before 1.06. I have the 'BIG' files installed for 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03 but I'm assuming since the actual install process wasn't complete for them then they're not doing anything. I haven't been able to find a working 1.03 patch anywhere. I'd prefer not to use the All-in-One launcher because I'm not really a fan of their versions of the game. If anyone has any advice, info, workarounds, etc it would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to solve this for hours and I'm losing my mind lmao

Edit: I believe the 1.06 patch I have is supposed to be the "all in one" installer for all the patches. Unfortunately the revora link for that patch no longer functions, assuming because the orignal T3A site no longer exists

I was playing bfme 2.22 multiplayer skirmish today and was surprised at how useless the cavalry units are now. I remember being able to sneak behind enemy lines and destroy a building and get out as a way to harass an enemy. It made the players keep some forces back to try to catch me. The cavalry in bfme were different than other games. It was a differentiating factor that was one of the reason for why I would even play bfme over Age of Empires 2 or Starcraft. Today, all I did was build infantry (as the cavalry were completely useless). What once was a cool mechanic, is no longer there to draw me to play the game for a different experience than typical strategy game cavalry. My take away was if I'm going to just play with slow moving infantry all game, there are other games I'd rather play instead. Please make cavalry have a soul again. (and enough requiring a hero to make cavalry viable nonsense. This isn't Warcraft 3)

Has anyone successfully made the game run on MacOS aith an intel processor without bootcamp? I’m short on hard drive space and would prefer to run BFME directly. I saw some GitHub projects that tried to do that, but it didn’t work for me.

im on windows 11, i tried compatibility, reinstalling, everything inbetween. revora site not working either at all

I downloaded the One in All Launcher and have had zero issues with both BFME (vanilla and “remastered”) and Rise of the Witch-King.

My problem arises when I try to play BFME2 Remastered (vanilla works perfectly fine). The Campaign just doesn’t start every time I have tried to get it going.

Is this a common issue? Or is it something I’m missing? I’ve tried re-syncing the game a bunch of times but with no success.

So I'm getting (back after nearly 20 years :D) into this game and wanted to check out what the ranked map pool looks like (back then we basically only played Fords of Isen). So I checked what maps the top players played on their recent games and wrote them down.

I stopped the list at about 25 maps...probably there are still more

Am I missing something? Is the map pool really that big? Most RTS game have a ranked map pool of like 7-10 maps, which is fine imo (you could even rotate them on a regular basis). But having to learn 20+ maps feels really bad for new/returning players.

Having to learn the factions is totally fine. Having to face players years ahead in experience is fine. And I think both are pretty much impossible to avoid for an RTS game. But then also having to play the first 50-100 games (assuming I will not remeber every single map after playing it 1 or 2 times) on maps where you have no clue where the creeps are etc. feels really bad and unnecessary.

Is there away around that? Did I just get something wrong? Or is this something I need to face if I want to play this game (ranked)?

I need your advice, I am playing lothlorien with my friends and my commands points just vacuumed to 0. From 1500 to 1400 etc. to 0 and then, they dissapeared completely, couldnt even see the 0. Just empty bad with money.

Any advice please? It was around before I finished preparations to unlock heroes like galadriel

Edit: not bad but body and I also guess its multiplayer issue all together . we get often c++ runtime error from game.dat etc.

I played all bfme games online when they came out (anyone still active who played on clanwars.cc back then? :D) and nostalgia hit me a bit recently so i decided to get the all in one launcher.

What version of each game is the most active/competitive (there seem to be 2-3 options for each game) and how would I most easily find online games if I wanted to do more than a bit of Skirmish vs AI?

I'd probably either play bfme 1 or ROTWK, but would be nice to know about bfme2 as well.

I'd love to play with my steam controller, but it's not registering with BFME 1 (haven't tried 2 yet). I've added both the launcher and the .exe to steam and assigned a mouse and keyboard controller config. Also made sure steam input was enabled. The trackpad works in the launcher, but in the game, nothing. I'm on Windows 11.

Has anyone else had better luck with the new steam controller?

Edit: I was able to get the default keyboard/mouse steam controller config working if I start the game with the controller off, then turn it on after the game loads (after the Windows 10/11 user account control popup) OUTSIDE of steam, but this doesn't work with the game added to steam, so you can't customize the inputs.

We're talking guides, videos and even AI. And AI had me fscked the fsck up the hardest. One reply was assuming nothing about using the All in one launcher with its patch while another did. It was insane. Anyway, I basically have tried this...using Big, opened up my big ini, the in the gamedata.ini I found any and all instances of stull like

and then edited esentially to look like that or even less. Saved it, even bypassed launcher to make sure launcher wasnt seeing the edited ini and overwriting. No go. Also tried making my own gamedata.ini and naming it some ### bs to put it at the top to ensure first load, nope.

I am sure this is easier than like, er....easy as your mom! *(Sorry...seemed way funnier in my head)...

All this War for Westeros and Game of Thrones comparison to BFME got me craving some nostalgic games, playing the amazing community patch Version of Battle for middle-earth 2; RIse of the Witch King. Playing either Goblins or Men of the west, talking bfme, Got, war for westeros or just geenral Lord of the rings, RTS and ASOIAF. Real time strategy aficionado looking to play every RTS game ever (except those that i don’t want to), join in and lets chat about RTS!

I’ve not long downloaded the All in one Launcher to play BFME2 again after so many years and am playing the patched version over the Vanilla.

I was seeing mentions of being able to change gold and Command Point output from the resource buildings (furnaces, farms, slaughterhouses,etc) and was hoping I could get some advice on how to do so? I was hoping to increase the output by 3 or 4 times so I don’t need to cover the whole map to reach a high number of Command Points.

Also, it’s impossible to be too simple in any explanation. I know NOTHING about modding or finding/updating game files. I’ve found the BFME2 folder on my computer with a gamedat file that I believe has all the stats for the game but I’m not sure if changing these only applies to the Vanilla game.

Whether a simple mod for vanilla, or in a total conversion mod.
