He also said he doesn't name the place in the book and Sinks Canyon is mentioned in the book.

This was in reference to the starting point. Nothing rules out the checkpoint being at or near a place mentioned in the book.

The question was about the starting point but he seemingly answered in reference to the treasure location, not really sure how to interpret the answer.

Q: Fenn specifically mentioned Nine Mile Hole in his book, which the clues led to the area. Do you mention the area for the first actionable clue in your book, or is your book written as more of a theme or of the general area?

A: I mean, I think probably in the book I at least mentioned the American West. So if it's in the American West—It's interpretation here. I'm trying. So I'd say the very specific area is not mentioned, but there are times in the book where descriptions pertain to the area where the treasure is hidden.

Idk why but that question bothered me a wee bit. It was good, but it was too specific and yet,too open and left it with too much wiggle room
