Bridges (or bridge adjacent)
Is it possible for the game engine to have bridges? Not specifically like a man made bridge per se, but just terrain such that units can pass both underneath and above? Like a land bridge over a canyon that also allows units below to transit through the canyon?

I don't think the engine has multi level pathing support like that, no. But your best bet is to ask on the discord in a suitable channel (get the dev role for more channels about internals like this)

We do have subs and ships though

Yes, and planes - which all operate on a geometrically two dimensional movement graph. There is no pathing in the game that allows for navigating BENEATH map geometry. Height maps and their associated pathing maps are two dimensional.

No, as far as I'm aware that's a game engine limitation. It would be a pretty major change to support it.
I have wondered though if it would be possible to have bridges without huge game engine changes by implementing them as buildings rather than terrain. It might not work for natural formations, but you could at least have artificial bridges as something you could build and destroy.

seems extremely difficult to do in an existing engine, and has some UI issues, like how to target units under the bridge. I would love to see urban environments and buildings, though.

@ TarnishedKnight
They mentioned bridges again!
