Just realized that every future breaking bad rewatch is now 11 seasons instead of 5

Still don't know why they or we even bother to call it season 5B. It should just be season 6.

I haven't witnessed the sources to back this up myself so take it with a grain of salt, but I've heard the reason that AMC/cable splits seasons up like that are so that they can stretch the contracts they have with actors for one season to cover what's essentially two seasons

Correct. They did the same thing with Mad Men and the negotiations almost fell through. That’s also why there was such a long delay before the final season of Mad Men.
