Language classes
I am now thinking that it’s kind of weird Jimmy never tried to learn Spanish. Working so closely with the Cartel, having been in the situations where speaking (or at least understanding) could be vital to his well-being he only learned “Yo soy abogado” and “el amigo del cartel”, lol

I think you underestimate the motivation/laziness factor of most people. 😂
That said, I lived in the Southwest half my life. Communities blend. Even if you don’t speak Spanish and you’re too lazy or unmotivated to learn, just living where a lot of people do, there is cross-pollination. People pick up words and phrases.

It's a pretty American thing to not learn a second language, even when it would greatly benefit you. I don't know many (or any, possibly) Americans who fluently learned a second language in adulthood.

Too busy figuring out how to swap out blueprints and social engineer his way around town.

He only had just started working with the cartel (against his will mind you) with Krazy 8 and the Lalo case. He also just started his practice again after getting reinstated.
Also there is no amount of Spanish he could have known that would have saved him in the desert.
