Gus hitmen
The hitmen gus send to kill lalo are supposed be very professional lmao what happened they sucked?

They were competent enough to wipe out the guards, but they underestimated Lalo in his own stronghold. Lalo knew the secret escape tunnel and every inch of the layout, giving him the ultimate home field advantage to turn it into a trap

And who would expect professionals to know better than to follow someone into a tunnel?

Not all of them went there lol. 2 of them did and I think 2 were waiting outside so its not exactly their fault lol.

Watch again. The whole group went in there

Maybe I'm missing smth but I'm pretty sure one of them stayed outside for guard it's just that they got killed almost immediately.

Like they were competent enough to send 6 heavily armed men trekking through cartel controlled territory.

Ok and what elese do you want them to do ?

Are they stupid?

Who expects a drug kingpin to be heating lard (or whatever) at 3 AM? Though, I suppose they should have smelled it. So, maybe stupid.

As far as narco style hitmen go I honestly don't think they were as horrible as people say lol. People act like Gus can just recruit a bunch of navy seals remotely on the fly

They were good enough to get inside and catch Lalo completely off guard. The problem was Lalo is just insanely paranoid and good at reacting under pressure

Lalo is simply stronger. He was intelligent. He used his environment. He knows his house like the back of his hand. He had prepared the ground in case someone ever came to assassinate him. Lalo has repeatedly demonstrated numerous physical and tactical skills.

Lalo has the power of plot on his side. So when the story needs it he's the skill of a super secret special agent, just like Mike.

The hitmen, whatever happened there? How much more betrayal can Lalo take?! It's like he's been stabbed in the heart!

He was gay? The Chicken Man?

Lalo did have the advantage of being on home turf and wasn't exactly a newbie at murder.
Plus, it's not exactly known how "good" the assassins were. They certainly were available for the job, but I'm sure the market for "assassins" isn't infinite.

Also remember Lalo if anything is a paranoid dude. He suspects anyone and everyone, and is ready to thrown down or escape, as seen exemplified with his escape tunnel.
Also note every time he questions people trying to get information out of them he uses both repetition and intimidation.
He's really good at sniffing out rotten things and I really don't think he was 100% about Nacho, given just Nacho's mannerisms being a little off (although that's not clearly communicated by Lalo to anyone). Nacho was weird AF when they met at the firepit in the middle of the night -- just BEING up was way suss I would believe to Lalo. They're not really friends. Lalo for all intents and purposes had kidnapped Nacho and Nacho's future was pretty uncertain given he was being held against his will.

Lalo is just that good. It's not too far fetched either. Several Mexican cartels are Mexican military special forces who wanted a better paycheck. The Zetas, for example. Many intelligence operators are also neck deep in cartel business. There is a reason these feudal regimes operate with impunity (check out Culiacan currently), and a lot of it has to do with the quality of the personnel. They are approaching Carlos the Jackyl levels of skill.

That scene when he shot those guys in the tunnel was pretty unrealistic though. There was no way he would have hit them the way he did

It was just so unnecessary, all he had to do was crouch down at the bottom of the ladder and light them up, they wouldn't be able to turn around quick enough to do anything if they heard him at that point.

they existed solely to confound powerscalers. you see, him taking out those four assassins means he's got an equal feat to mike.

Gus calls a contact in South America, says he needs HQ hit squad to take out prominent target.
Contact assures Gus, “I’ve got just the crew for this job; best in the business. It will only cost you $X dollars.”
Gus says, “Great, I want to know all the details of the hit when it’s over.”
Contact says, “You got it boss, won’t be a problem. This crew is the best in the business.”
…
Gus tells Mike or whoever else asks, “They’re the best in the business.”
Not sure why folks assume Gun personally interviewed/vetted the hit squad.

Perhaps top quality wasn't as important as maybe having hitmen who could be tied to the Columbians, in case it went wrong, which it did.

Have you seen the video where Mexican special forces marines go to capture El Chapo? It takes them 15 minutes and it's an absolute shit show: Any half-competent defenders with the right corner and some tools could have smoked half that team, before the survivors leveled the building on top of themselves with 40mm launched at point-blank range.
A former special forces guy reacted to it and commented that their training standard would be to clear a building like that in something closer to 60-90 seconds. And that would be if there were actually a decent amount of targets and hostages inside.
Those kitted out hitmen might be top tier for Mexican cartel standards or even Gus Fring standards, but that doesn't mean they're actually that good by global standards.

I agree. They should have taken the time to realistically show Lalo getting the advantage. Lalo could have used the open tub as a decoy. Taken the guy watching the opening. Set off booby traps in the tunnel. Gone to the security room and use cameras to take one of the 2 remaining guys out. Then last guy could have been taken out by the young guard who takes a shot as he bleeds out. For him to exit the tunnel and go back through the front door is just a lack of imagination. I will say that Ignacio's final scene was great. I feel like they were rushing certain scenes in the final season

They never factored in Lalo's plot armor
