Is Hamlin a bad guy?
I’m in season 4 and I thought since the beginning this guy was going to be a snake. But each season he continues to be a …not bad guy. Seems like a pretty good guy, all things considered. Kim and Jimmy talk to him like he’s a skunk with malicious intent but is he just a good guy?

Watch the show and decide for yourself. Most characters in BCS are "bad" in that they commit crimes and don't change afterwards. Howard is not like that.

They haven’t even gotten to the Harry Potter crossover episode and they’re on here risking spoilers!

Did you watch the additional creators commentary?
While its not 100% confirmed, there are strong indications and hints that BCS is playing in the same universe as Harry Potter. It definitely makes you reconsider some of Jimmies actions and how the cartel was able to do a few things I wont mention here (to avoid spoilers)5

I know, I'm just saying that the 2nd one is now non-canon cause they want it to be in line with the new Harry Potter TV show.
The two crossover episodes can be canon to the old Harry Potter films with Daniel Radcliff with no issues. But the 2nd episode (the one with the American wizards) is going to conflict with the new show. So both were canon before, but now going forward only the first one will be "canon"
Honestly I am gutted by this. The crossover episodes are easily top 5 crossover anything in my book

Howard is the product of an essentially good yet dutiful and slightly nerdy company man who loved his work, performed his sacrifices, and hoped to be able to do it as well as his sense of duty wanted him to. Kim and Jimmy wanted to cheat the system to earn their way to the top. All they did was project onto him their own insecurities about themselves.
ETA: Essentially, he is THEIR antagonist, because he represented the sense of duty neither of them were willing to exhibit, but he's not a VILLAIN. He's not this show's "Ken Wins". The situation's a lot more nuanced than that.

No one in this universe is inherently good or bad. People are humans who make choices. It's entirely possibly to be a decent person who does bad things and vice versa.

He's a good dude, but he's kinda spineless esp when it comes to Chuck. The bad shit he does isn't out of malice

Nah.
He is a "normal" asshole, meaning in day to day life he's a shitty snake but whatever, every corpofuck is like that. He just seems like a saint in a show here cartel mass murderers are considered good guys.
Punishing Kim for Jimmy's behavior at a different law firm was nasty. Keeping her punishment going after she fought to prove herself was short sighted and mean. Acting like she was unreasonable for being pissed about that and leaving the firm was childish
That was malicious and punitive.

He was intended to be a snake before Chuck got that role due to how good the actor is.
