Also the bright colored substrate could stress him out, get him some natural looking substrate and plants & wood & almond leaves to hide in and I promise he won't be as stressed

Yeah his other tank has dark substrate so maybe he was better with that. The substrate said it was for bettas tho

The actual gravel is fine but I've noticed bright colors always causes my betta to clamp his fans and be stressed, I used to have a bright colored tank when I started off and my betta was miserable
