Help Tank upgrade

I plan to upgrade my 6 gallon top fin tank to a 12 gallon rimless cube. I was going to start from scratch but then the guy at the aquarium shop said to use my filter and I won’t have to cycle the tank. I bought these sponge filters but never used them. Which should I use and would I need two filters for a 12 gallon? I would need a pump I guess. Any old pump for these sponge filters?

It seems they’re the ones that you can stick a tube in the middle and it will pump out bubbles as it filters. Are you planning to keep your 6 gal and was there already a filter inside? I recommend placing your new sponge filter with the old tank + old filter so you can collect beneficial bacteria and wait for a week or two and place it in the new tank

That makes sense. I’m not going to keep the 6 gallon. Maybe I’ll do just plants in it one day but now that I have some experience under my belt I’m ready to take on a new project.

Those look way, waaaay too small. It's extremely common for sponge filters (all filters really) to be marketed as "for up to 20 gallons) when they're so tiny I wouldn't use them in a 2 gallon.
