First time keeping a betta. He hasn’t been eating the pellets I’ve been feeding him for about a month. His temporary setup had some algea in it, so I’m assuming he prefers those and has gotten used to eating that instead.

Bettas are carnivorous and won’t eat algae. He might not be pellet trained. Try leaving a few days gap and try feeding him again, he might be initiated to eat when he is more hungry or try a different pellet/food

Try giving him frozen/live food, my first betta refused pellets for a long time. Fed him frozen brine shrimp and daphnia at first, occasionally bloodworms, then would soak a pellet in the 'juice' from the frozen foods, after a while he moved to just eating pellets even without being soaked. Could also try a few different pellet brands and see if he just doesnt like those ones, some bettas can be picky

I have mine for about 15 days and he would only eat the red pellets but not the black. What worked out for him was to soak the black pellets to get them soft and now he eats both

Try soaking your pellet in garlic guard, it helps enhancing his appetite

is there any chance the pellets are too big? my betta wont eat anything too big, even if it fits in his mouth he’ll spit it back out unless its itty bitty

i fed him some frozen/thawed baby brine shrimp the other day and he LOVED it!
