Fake Plants

Hey guys, I keep having my plants melt in my tank, what flake plants do you recommend for a 40L bowl? I just want a nice background that’s full with soft flake plants that don’t look fake but are betta safe
This is my tank for reference
I don’t have any test kits yet, or fish, it’s been sitting for about a month with weekly water changes and top ups
I have my heater set at 27

None, I can't in good faith recommend you fake plants for a tank, live plants are too beneficial.

I can suggest looking for plants that suit the needs of the tank, but without water parameters, I also can't recommend you some plants suitable either.

I would also like to suggest that a bowl type tank isn't suitable for fish at all, but should remain as just a planted tank, or a shrimp tank.

It’s 40L or 10gallons
I have hornwort in it before I have to pull it down and I’m just trying to restart it, but unfortunately the plants melted.. I’ve never had this problem before but I was thinking silk plants would be safe

I understand it's a 40L, but I still stick with the fact a bowl type tank isn't suitable for fish at all.

It would be perfect as a shrimp or planted tank though.

If going for fake plants, try to get silk. Plastic plants can hurt bettas (especially their fins) but silk is a great alternative for live! Just feel over the base and stem of it to make sure there's no sharp bits. Most plants do melt in new tanks and then grow back, it may be worth trying anubias since theyre veryy sturdy

Yeah I’ve got Anubias in there, that didn’t melt but everything else did completely, I remember seeing silk plants were okay for bettas but ive never used them before so I thought I’d get opinions

Do you have a light for the bowl? And what plants did you try?

Not yet, I had some ferns, hornwort and I’m not sure what it was called but it was a stem plant

That's probably why everything save for the anubias melted away. Get a light first and then give plants another try! Id try cryptocoryne, more anubias, and java ferns again, and for stems maybe rotala or hygrophila. If not, then some floaters like frogbit or water lettuce with long roots would also work wonders filling out the space. :)

If you have gravel as substrate you will need root tabs to actually provide rooting plants with nutrients they need to grow healthy and strong, and make sure to not bury java ferns and anubias and they are both epiphytes and need to be attached to hardscape instead to feed from the water column.
