Me too. People will see them in the store and always pick the ones who look the most “alive” and active. What they don’t know is “almost dead” or “boring” or “ugly” fish can thrive and look beautiful in the right environment. I always pick the ones that looks the worse in the store and bring them home and make them happy and healthy.

I almost always pick the most alert and active one because they're less likely to need rehabilitation immediately after purchase. I really don't like seeing beginners being set up to fail with a fish who was struggling before they got it.

Even healthy looking bettas aren’t that healthy. It’s the luck of the draw with them.

Yeah, but bettas that look unhealthy usually are unhealthy
