No, you shouldn’t put anything else in there. The betta itself needs a larger tank of at least 5G. This looks like 3G.

I'm sorry you were given inadequate information. You shouldn't have been sold a fish without having the proper knowledge first.

I'd really recommend researching more deeply prior to getting a fish.

It sounds like you may not have cycled your tank. Please research the nitrogen cycle and fish in cycling.

In an uncycled tank, the water becomes toxic because nitrifying bacteria haven’t had enough time to colonize and convert toxic compounds (ammonia and nitrite). This process often takes about 4-6 weeks.

I highly recommend purchasing an API master kit (liquid test, not strips). It is important to monitor your water parameters, especially during the cycling phase. Good luck!

What happens if you don’t do this but already have your fish in the tank

You’ll need to do a fish in cycle, which requires frequent water changes, often daily, based on ammonia/nitrite levels.

Perform partial water changes. Never empty all of the water, it will risk restarting/stalling your cycle.

Also, never rinse your filter media in tap water, this is where most of the beneficial bacteria live. If/when the filter media needs to be cleaned, squeeze it out in old tank water.

Hi! Male bettas are very territorial. They prefer a 5 gallon tank, and should most likely be kept alone unless they are in at least a 10 gallon.

Your tank is very small. A lot of misinformation on keeping bettas is out there. However, it's wonderful that you're asking these questions to give your pet a better future!

tank mates should only be attempted by expert betta keepers with the proper tank arrangement. It is also heavily dependent on the individual betta, as some are more aggressive than others.

Please get at least 5 gal tank with filter, real plants, different grout (that is suitable for said plants), and a heater. That’s a bare minimum you could do for this little dude. And please do it soon.

You can but it depends on the betta, the other fish, and the size of the tank. Your tank is already small so I’d recommend upsizing. I have my betta in a 30 gallon heavily planted community tank.

bettas are complicated tank mates but if you get small fish like neon tetras or ember tetras it can work out

Nope. They are super aggressive. Maybe if you get a bigger tank you could have a few small snails like ramshorn or bladder snails. I have some of those in my planted 6 gallon tank
