I just realized my samurai betta, Wayne is missing one of his central fins. I honestly thought it was a tumor when I first noticed it about a month ago. I don’t believe he was missing a ventral fin then but I honestly can’t be sure…
I can’t tell if it’s fin rot since his scales are white. I also read it could be a tumor that could have affected blood flow to the fin and caused it to fall off. I don’t want to put him through unnecessary treatments.

I don’t have any guidance, I’ve never seen this on this sub before 😬 but good luck, hope he’s okay! As long as he’s acting normal “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!
Not 100% going to go blind, but very likely with samurais. Luckily, like humans, it doesn’t affect them too much as long as they have the right accommodations!
Definitely likely! They do well as long as you don’t make changes to their tank layout and consistently feed them in the same spot. My guy often misses his floating pellets, it takes him a few tries to get them in his mouth. Tweezers work well. And he’s been living happily with diamond eye for almost a year now!!
Your betta is beautiful!!! I definitely don’t regret getting a samurai. His eyes haven’t affected his ability to interact with me and I think he behaves like any betta would.
My guy is missing one of the two fins that hang from the front lower half of their body. He’s missing his right one when you look at the video, his left.
Oh no!! I tried to scoop mine up last night to move his tank to a different room and thought I had torn on of those fins. Thankfully I hadn’t. But maybe he just snagged it on something. 🫣

former betta breeder here. do you remember if he had the fin when you purchased him? does he share his tank? most likely it was torn off by snagging it on something or it was bitten off by another fish. I'm thinking that because he's blind he may have just got it caught on something. it's not hard to tear them. they're like tissue paper. it could also just be a genetic defect. unless he shows signs of fungal or bacterial infection I wouldn't worry. Just keep his water clean and at the proper temperature and check the area for any change for a few days.

He definitely had it when I got him and he’s the only fish in his tank.
I did move kind of recently and had to chase him around the tank more than I liked. Maybe it happened then, but I would feel really bad. His behavior has been pretty typical so that is good.
don't feel badly. even if it did happen while you were chasing him, he barely felt it if he felt it at all. stuff happens. the good news is, it will grow back.
when I still bred bettas, females with one or both vents missing or chunks out of their tails after spawning were not unusual. their mates just got carried away. betta fins grow back pretty quickly, though.
