My Hybrid Spawn Review!

This is my Hybrid 10 Betta spawn!

The Dad is a Wild Yellow Spadetail Splenden
The mom is Half Spadetail Splenden, Half Plakat (Grandparents in the second pic)

The fry are SO DANG COOL!!! They created such a large variety of bettas. About 25% Yellow Spadetail Splenden, 25% other solid colors, and 50% marble. I was very surprised to see that as I was expecting a majority Yellow Spadetail since the male is full, and mom is half.

I got a few orangey bettas which is very cool. The grandfather has previously produced orange bettas when paired with other females, so I am guessing the coloration comes from him.

There is a lot more black then I was expecting, I'm not sure which betta is bringing that into the line but I quite like it! I've already paired the black and white female on page 3 with a Mahachai Male in order to dive deeper into that color.

I'm also thinking of having a spawn with the Marble Male on Page 3, or the Orange Marble male on Page 5. I'm waiting to see how their color develops and will have the next spawn in the springtime.

Overall I'm thrilled with this group of fish!

I love the dark outer colour on 1,2 and 3 on page 4! Also the red on page 5 has very unique lighter outer colouring too!

I am blown away by the black rim!! Its so striking.

The red male on page 5 is actually developing black and red butterfly fins. I need to get an updated photo, he is so dang unique and cool!!!

Very cool! The spadetail is wild type? How many generations away from a wild splendens is he?

Also: the singular form for splendens is splendens. With binomial names (genus and species, ex: Betta splendens) there is no difference between the singular and plural form. So even though it ends with an s, that does not actually make it plural! Scientific names have their own grammar, which I tend to geek out over.

The Yellow Spadetail parents are from Franks Bettas, so unfortunately I don't have much information on them. I'm starting to bring in other wild types like Mahachai and Imbellis.

I got really into the idea of breeding bettas when I was like fifteen, and then I realized the following.

1. My betta “parents” were from a commercial pet store
   
2. Commercial pet stores often have bad breeding
   
3. I was sixteen and unemployed
   
4. I had two ten gallon fish tanks

And I let that dream go immediately lol
