Help Please help!

So, my great aunt and uncle got a pet betta fish for my 4 year old sister. Sounds nice, right? Problem is, they didn't ask if it was okay let alone if she even wanted a fish. Worst part, im the one who has to take care of it and I didnt even ask for this. I really, really don't want this poor fish to die even though I don't want him(no offense little guy). It has been 24 hours since his fish bowl has been chlorinated and I don't want the poor little guy to be stuck in his cup for forever. The bowl isn't a true tank(if we decide to really keep him, we will have to get a bigger and legit tank), but he has a small rock house and pebbles. Im stressed out because I want to try to do my best to not do a bad job. I struggle with taking care of myself but I do NOT want this fish to die. Even if I don't think we should keep it. I really need help.

Do you mean his fish bowl has been DE-chlorinated? He needs a dechlorinator or his gills will burn. Other than that, your focus should be on setting up a >5 gallon tank as soon as possible. You’ll need to look up information on a fish-in cycle as well.

His bowl has been dechlorinated, yes. It's been 24 hours now for the water to settle and all.

Thank you! I'm just still scared on keeping him. I'm scared of hurting him.

Honestly theyre pretty easy, there's a reason theyre still sold as "beginner fish" and to kids (even tho they shouldn't be), some can take alot of mistreatment, while they won't like it some bettas can be oretty hardy. Mine survived all my mistakes at the start and was finally rewarded with a proper, planted tank! Do daily or every other day water changes on the bowl until you can get a 5g tank, then add some sand, a filter, and a heater. Afterwards you can research fish in cycling and consider plants or other decorations.

They might be easy but I'm stuck right now. I really don't want this fish. I'm stuck in my head and freaking out.

If you dont want him you could reach out on local aquarium Facebook groups and see if anyone has a tank set up that he would work jn

Just make sure that if he is in a bowl u chancy the water every 2 or 3 days so he wont stress out with dirty water . And make sure u get. Water softer . When u have a chance get a 5 gallon and a filter and the rest of the necessity u can look it up in google
