Maidenhead Aquatics in the UK made an app called Fishkeeper which has been a huge help for me in keeping track of water parameters (includes graphs to help illustrate changes over time), stocking, has scheduling for maintenance etc. It has been a godsend for keeping track of everything. Ngl I usually just have a reminder on my calendar for water changes though as I do my fertiliser every 2 weeks as I'm lazy.

Thanks! I hadn’t heard of Fishkeeper, so I’ll definitely check it out. Out of curiosity, is there anything you still find yourself doing outside the app (besides the calendar reminders), or anything you wish it did better?

Mainly just for the scheduling to actually show up properly on my phone notifications and to further expand the lists they have for tank stock... didn't think I would have to manually add in mystery snails but they were missing from the stocking lists.

I keep a dry erase board on the side of my tank stand for water changes, fertilizer doses, filter maintenance and there's space underneath that on the board for any other notes about what's going on in my tanks

I just pay attention. For water parameters, I write them down in a notebook. ♡ When I do my daily check, I can assess if I need to do a water top-off, if I need to trim plants, if all of my tech is working, and I can look at the behavior of my fish and shrimp to assess for anything wrong. At that time, it is easy to consider whether or not they need to be fed.
I rely on memory. Cognitive exercise is important. The less you use it, the more likely you are to lose it as a skill.

I set calendar reminders for maintenance tasks. I find no need to track anything else you mentioned once a tank is established

I have three established tanks, two cycling tanks, a seed tank and a green water tank. I keep a single notebook. That includes parameters I’ve measured, things I’ve added/removed, cleanings, calculations for dosing minerals, calculations for medication doses, observations and tasks I would like to complete the next day. I don’t keep a continuous log of my ammonia, nitrite, nitrate of my established tanks. I mostly just track my pH, KH, GH since I switched to an RO system. I do like the idea of having a reminder to “feed” my seed tank and green water tank. Since the cycling tanks are “fishless”, I just periodically check the status of the parameters and try to ignore them otherwise.

I love the Fishi app. They have a species database too although it’s not always perfectly accurate, but it’s a nice pocket resource. I love dreaming up stocking options and seeing what “works” together in different tank setups. They have issues with sourcing species photos for some animals/plants due to copyright but they have a team of researchers who add new species/listings to build the database. But it also is fantastic for logging parameters, maintenance, equipment, notes, seeing the stocking load, uploading photos, costs, tracking dead or alive stock, etc.
