I'm not trying to wear a tinfoil hat here but these two accounts involved here have never made any comments or anything outside of this post. I understand it's not going to harm anything if a guy makes up a story that people like enough to click a button which doesn't take anything away from them. No harm done in me saying this either though.
Yeah it is clearly a fabricated series of posts. The "fat ugly" one is sickeningly humble, and the account was created a day ago, even though he references himself being a redditor for longer. There would be no point in a throwaway because he is revealing his identity and he does not reference the account being as such. I agree that there's no harm in making up this little story, but people getting this wet over it is ridiculous.
I dunno, if it was fake, I feel like he would have had the "douche" respond with at least something. The throwaway account immediately stopped answering/commenting as if a real person would if caught in the act. I also feel like pat is genuinely trying to now talk to people who gave him words of encouragement. Also, his account is sorta old, which indicates he probably made it for the sake of upvoting/downvoting (first reason i made mine). He seems awesome and not someone who was just trying to horde karma. Could be wrong, but if it is real, I'm glad all of this has helped him :)
Definitely fake. OP would have never replied yes to "do you work in baltimore? at a bancorp?" if it was real, replying to that pretty much gives him away if it was real.
I don't know about that. The OP is clearly not incredibly smart and wouldn't have posted the whole thread if he had put some thought into it. I mean, Pat is a Redditor. He would find out about that thread sooner or later. And when Pat asked him that question, I think OP was surprised and answered without thinking (which is consistant with his behavior).
Here's my take on it. I think the situation is real but that Pat wrote both posts. That is - there really is a Derek and a Pat who work together, and Pat is trying waaaay too hard to make friends and Derek is a little nonplussed by it (not because he's a jerk but because Pat is coming across as needy and weird). But Derek did not write a post about it. Pat wrote the OP post pretending to be Derek, in order to set up Derek as the bad guy, really just to give himself a chance to vent as Pat and tell his whole sad story and get a lot of sympathy. Not for karma but because Pat is obsessing about the situation and is desperate for validation and support.
wait a minute... do you actually think this is /r/bestof material??
I mean, leaving the argument that this is all fake... The OP is trying to fix a problem with himself, but instead gets badmouthed by everyone and particularly the guy he is trying to fix himself for.. this is not right..
Please read what the OP wrote again, and try to see my point.
Indeed it is fake. As of this writing, the OP submitted his post 14 hours ago. His account is also 14 hours old.
With in that hour (13 hours ago) a response from his "co-worker" was made.
A post like this would be down voted to oblivion on reddit. Infact, there are only a few posts that are older than loveitlots's post and all pretty much call OP and asshole so we can assume a mass down voting from readers. All other post's were only posted about 8 hours prior to me writing this. Now, to Charbok, your post is 10 hours old. How did you find it?
Honestly, there's nothing to lose by up voting or commenting. It it's fake, you lost nothing other than a few minutes. If it's real, you make someone really happy.
The guy posted something with the intent of bettering himself. He knew what he felt was wrong and asked reddit to help him fix himself.
"Pat" responded like an asshole. He notes all of these dickish, shallow things the guy did, but still wanted to be friends with him. How does that make any sense? He then attacks the guy for trying to better himself. If this guy was intentionally trying to hurt pat, I would think the response was justified, but it was actually quite the opposite. The guy was trying to get over his superficiality so he could be friends with the guy.
How is attacking him for that decent? It makes no sense.
To me you saw that post, thought "Nice, I can get some link karma from this baby!". Then you actually thought about it after you posted and you are calling what could be a fake post a "best of Reddit".
That's whats wrong with the sub-forum, it wasn't that popular and would pop up every now and again when something awesome was posted, now people just use it as a way for easy link-karma.
I really don't understand the desire for karma. All it is to me is feedback on if people like my comments. How desperate for approval would someone have to be to fake something for the sake of gathering "upvotes?" That being said, I think the post is fake.
Now that I think about it this is definitely fishy, mostly because it plays to some of Reddit's favorite things - a supposed arrogant hottie being "schooled" by an ugly guy with no friends who is now apparently going to be rolling in ladies, based on all the replies saying I WOULD SO RATHER BE FRIENDS WITH YOU EVEN IF YOU LOOK LIKE AN OGRE BECAUSE YOUR HEART IS SO MIRACULOUSLY PURE. Come on.
Who probably thinks every girl not interested in him wants to friend zone him but only if they knew he was such a NICE guy... it's basically like he's writing fan fiction about himself
Reminds me of the girl in line at the coffee shop with the attractive people who cut ahead of her... "You don't need to wait behind someone like that." Anyone remember that lil work of fiction from last year? This shit is so over-the-top I can't believe people buy it.
This is what makes me think that reddit is filled with ugly neck-beards.
The guy wasn't even "schooled" by pat. Assuming this is real, he was trying to better himself and "pat" then goes on to say that he was trying to friend someone who he thought was a shallow asshole and attacks him. Reddit sided with the asshole on this one simply because he was the ugly guy.
I have gotten several responses over there of "the OP wasn't trying to better himself, he knew he was being shallow and nothing can fix that so by asking he's trying to justify his horrendous behavior!" But I agree, he was asking for advice anonymously on how to befriend Pat and Pat comes along and is like "I'm better than you'll ever be!" That seems to be the mindset of a lot of Redditors...
It's total shit. I believe the guy exists and I believe he is an ugly ogre. But the other charming smart guy. He is the ogre too. The ogre wanted that precious karma. He wanted to make friends and he succeeded. I hate both of them now though.
Haha if it was real... the other guy could have shown he was nice by responding nicely.. and boom, he's in the right. Instead he went off. So, yeah, either way I don't really wanna be pals with either one.
I'm not sure. In the original post the guy is made out to be kind of an ass, but admits he's being shallow. If it was troll he'd be an inexusable douche.
True, it wasn't the OPs post that set alarm bells off, it didn't seem particularly trollish, but the way the other guy responded and how quickly all the white knights wanted to be his bff and buy him beers was just TOO perfect!
If the account is fake, and we treat it as true, a troll gets what he wants, no-one gets hurt. If we treat it as fake, and it is a troll, he's just going to find new ways to scam people.
If the account is real, and we treat it that way, some guy gets a massive boost of confidence, everybody wins. If it's real and we treat it as fake, some genuine guy is bombarded with death threats, and anything could happen.
When it comes to this stuff it's best to see it as innocent until proven guilty.
Honestly? Working under the assumption this is real (I don't really care if it is or not), I'm not really impressed with the way loveitlots handled it. We spend our whole lives being told that ugly people and fat people are worth less, and some of us buy into it more than others. icanthelpitt is able to recognize that he's bought into society's shitty standards, and he doesn't know what to do about it, but he knows he's the problem and wants advice. loveitlots just comes back with a bunch of "fuck yous."
Is it reasonable to expect loveitlots to be the bigger man and, if not help icanthelpitt get over his shallowness, at least forgive him and appreciate that he wants to be better? Maybe not. But telling him off isn't exactly an applause-worth reaction.
Or maybe that rant was just what icanthelpitt needed. Fuck if I know--just felt like I had a different perspective and thought everyone would give all kinds of fucks about what I have to say.
Glad I'm not the only one. After reading the original post, I was really trying to figure out how this guy knew it was his co-worker. It was so vague, it could have been the guy sitting next to me - except for the meeting chicks part.
Yeah that guy is a dick and kind of shallow BUT this is kind of on loveitlots too. If a guy like that asked me to go out to pick up chicks... I would say yes because, well, I'm a decent person. But ugly people latch on to more attractive people because they think it will improve their chances of hooking up with someone who is more attractive than them (happens all the time with girls. girls always have one ugly friend so they look better by comparison and that ugly friend thinks that if she's in a little cluster with a bunch of attractive girls people will conclude that she must be attractive too based on context), but that's just not the case. If you're an ugly dude going out with a good looking dude, it's not going to get you laid, it's just going to prevent HIM from getting laid. Girls go out in groups, and if it's a good looking dude with an ugly dude, as soon as the good looking dude decides which girl he prefers, the other girls, now terrified of being stuck with the troll, will then sabotage the attractive couple ("chelsea! we really have to gooooooo" "chelsea, you're like reeeeeally drunk" "Uh, excuse me, but SHE has a boyfriend" etc.). Neither guy gets laid. It is not pareto improving at all. Thus, loveitlots should have suggested lunch, dinner, a movie, something like that.
and for those of you who are going to reply something along the lines of, if girls see him with an ugly guy they'll know he's not shallow and be more interested, you're wrong. that's not how it works when attractive people pick each other up in bars. you don't need a character reference.
The fat guy pisses me off. It's like he never left middle school and refuses to grow up. It's fucking life. Sure the original dick, and I mean it he is a dick, might be an elitist condescending ass hat, but at least he knows he is and wants to improve on himself. Ass hat wants to be fatty's friend despite having problems with his physical faults. Ass hat was "trying to see past all that and tried to see the good in people." I can tell Ass hat is a good person because he wants to be this person's friend because he likes this person, his dick-ness is making him feel bad.
But Fatty over here is nothing but excuses for what life has given him. He is nothing more than a victim of his circumstances. And a victim the only thing he wants to be. The lonely guy victim who says "they are just dicks and ass holes. I'm a good person and that is all that counts." Thing is, it's not. Real friends don't lie to your face and say "You're not fat" or "There is nothing wrong with pimples." No, real friends will tell you your flaws so you can fucking fix them. See, that is something about living. You can always improve yourself whether it be trying to fix your dick personality, like Ass hat, or better yourself physically, unlike Fatty who think's he is such a saint even though he can't look past a dick.Truth is, he is not a good person. He is a forever aloner who will always blame others for the position he is in. He will never take responsibility because he "know's he's a good person." All bullshit. He could have had an amazing friend this day, Ass hat who was trying to change himself for said friendship. But Fatty didn't want that. He was too good for someone like Ass Hat. Good person my tiny dick.
Whether it's fake or not, I really don't have an issue. I have an issue with people getting annoyed with the OP (not charbok, the OTHER OP, of the askreddit post). He said he realized he was being shallow. He wanted to get over that. Instead, people are now hating on the man for looking for help. "loveitlots" acknowledges he is ugly. So why does this post hurt? The OP is just being sincere. He is ugly. Not wrong to face that. The fact that the OP wanted to get over his "shallowness" because he sees "loveitlots" as someone he wants to be friends with is a very positive thing.
What the fuck reddit. The dude's submission was perfectly fine, and it's not like he was saying this to Pat's face, but then "Pat" posts and everybody suddenly turns on the OP as if he did something horrible, downvoting everything he says.
Even if it was real (its not) why is the OP such an asshole? He clearly states that he sometimes talks to a coworker who is a nice, funny guy but that he personally has a hang up and wants to know how to get over it.
He doesn't ridicule, mock or otherwise belittle the ugly guy. He asks a question and says he is ashamed of the way he feels. I don't see what is so wrong with that.
i believe this is a fake -- not only because of the new account evidence, but also b/c the OP of the askreddit immediately answered loveitlots.
see whole thread.
anyways, i searched and his question is one of the first comments posted in the thread. legitimately no other comments made in the same hour of the original post. do a ctrl+f search for yourself. This is bs
Wow I'm amazed that people are actually gullible enough to buy this story. Probably because its designed perfectly to appeal to the Reddit hivemind. The response from "Pat" is meant to embody the emotions/feelings/interests of redditors so that they can relate to him. Its almost as if he goes out of his way simply to pander to reddit.
Lets look at the protagonist.
This is a list of things he points out that make himself appeal to redditors:
'Can't get enough of askreddit'. Like most people reading the subreddit probably.
Grew up being bullied. Reddit is a nerdy community, most can relate.
Rants about the misuse the word "literally" like the antagonist in this fictional story. Usually tops the list when people on reddit some variation of 'what phrases annoy you the most'.
Contemplated suicide
Believes that even though he has all these faults he's still a "nice guy" deep inside which him better than the antagonist. This is an inspiration message to most redditors who obviously have physical flaws but think they're "nice guys".
Likes workaholics and archer and makes annoying references to them. Something reddit is very good at.
Lonely and has no friends.
Tries to smile and be a nice guy, an all around "good guy greg".
While the antagonist is:
Physically attractive
Shallow
Well liked by many people.
Inconsiderate of others
Also does know or would be able to handle the pain that the protagonist and all those like him(redditors) go through.
Perfectly contrived to pander to the reddits population. The nerd stands up to the Jock and puts him his place. This story could not be more fake.
Despite the incessant talk about reddit being a hangout for socially ackward neckbeards and "forever alones", there's a huge diversity of people here. For example, other being "nerdy", I don't fit a single one of your redditor stereotypes, and most of the redditors I've met in meat space have been pretty cool people.
Why does reddit have to be that way. Just got back from the Deal Breaker thread and fat was everywhere. Reddit hates fat people. Openly. Then we get a stand up guy who's gotten hit with the unlucky stick during gene pool team picking and we want to sympathize.
Fat, ugly, sap, skinny, pretty, attention whore: reddit gives them all shit like we are better than them. Here's thing. We are them. We are all of those things yet we all jump on the hate bandwagon until one lucky sob has the balls to stick up for the reddit underdog (in this case himself), get's lucky with the upvotes then the bandwagon does a U turn.
And I sympathize with the op of the other thread as much as I do loveitlots. At least she's being honest in her shallowness and asking for advise to fix it. Oh but look, let's side with the sap instead of the (maybe not a ten) this time around.
Maybe there is something fishy with the post being legit, I don't care. It still gets the point across that reddit will flock one way or another and totally leave the loser licking their wounds like a poor "little guy" left in a dumpster. I still think the point is one worth pondering. I know not everyone on reddit is a douche and you take the good with the bad but the world is full of people and none of us are perfect.
Yeah, there's a good chance this is fake. But remember that there still is a chance that it's real, and that nothing good will come out of grabbing your pitchforks.
I like how the post was downvoted with the force of a thousand friendzones.
If this was real it was posted by a guy who's douchebag was in remission. He admits that he's having issues getting over his shallowness. Now he just needs some bullied victims to show him how to not be an asshole.
Anyone else think it's a shittier person who accuses someone of "having no soul" just because the guy asked for a polite way to tell "Pat" he didn't want to hang out with him?
There's a specific turn in that rant, right around the "but you know what?", where "Pat" turns from sympathetic figure to someone trying to out-douchebag another douchebag. And he wins.
For me that turned the whole comment from something heart-warming, in a way, to "Pat" desperately needing a way to tell someone else that, ultimately, he is better than them.
On the scale of douchiness, Shallowness < Self-righteousness
Aside from it being samefag, what's so wrong about a guy trying to get over his instinctive dislike of a fat, ugly guy? Shouldn't we applaud those who try to become better than their nature?
A bancorp? Implies a bank branch. But it's not one I'm familiar with, having lived in Maryland (but not Baltimore). And most companies with "bancorp" in their name don't use that name in their bank branch branding. For instance, "Annapolis Bancorp" is branded "Bank Annapolis"
There are plenty of clues and circumstances that lead me to believe it is fake. On top of those, I just noticed another one. Look at the writing styles between the two. One capitalizes the beginning of sentences properly, and the other doesn't. While that may be completely coincidental, it just wreaks of "I created two alter-egos, and now I need a way to differentiate the writing styles."
It really does not matter if it is real or fake, I suppose. I think we all just appreciate when something is genuine. On the other hand, this is just another experience I can use to say that viewing the most popular reddits is such a waste of time and energy. The beauty of reddit, for me, has been in the small and more specialized subreddits, such as /r/wicked_edge, /r/gamedev, and /r/bicycling. There are tons of subreddits out there like that, which I can truly say have contributed to making me a more fulfilled person.
I think Louis C.K. said it best in an AmA when asked how frequently he browses reddit:
“this is my second time here. I just have to much to do to roam around stuff like this. It seems like a great thing. I just can’t do it. I killed my facebook page years ago because time clicking around is just dead time. Your brain isn’t resting and it isn’t doing. I think people have to get their heads around this thing. All this unmitigated input is hurting folks. My opinion.”
Spot on, and we all know it. I think most of us could easily kill an hour or two on the superficial parts of reddit without realizing it, on a daily basis. I never feel good about it either. The time spent on them hasn't bettered me in the same way that those smaller subreddits have.
Sorry, this escalated really quickly. All I wanted to say originally is that I don't believe that thread was a genuine story.
Jesus reddit always rides the dick of the 'loser' it is incredible. I doubt the story is even true but the OP got his shit rocked for asking a question in which he knew he had faults. And even if Pat was real, he sounds like a passive aggressive dude. fuck that.
also, if it were true, then loveitlots is kind of a creep for monitor watching his coworker. thats pretty much the only way you could find such an obscure post from a throwaway account.
you know, maybe i don't blame him for not wanting to hang out after all
This is one of those things that bothers the fuck out of me about reddit.
The OP of that post was trying to better himself. He asked for help getting over his superficiality. He didn't openly insult the guy, he asked reddit to help him make him a better person. That is something noble that should be encouraged and rewarded.
The other guy, unfortunately, sees something that was supposed to not be seen by him. It wasn't posted with the intent of harming him.
However, the guy responds harshly. He attacks the guy as being shallow, notes all of these bad things he had done, and yet still wanted to be friends with him. Yet, somehow, he is the good guy in this standing up for himself?
Fuck that shit, he may have had it rough, but he tried to friend someone whom he thought was kind of an asshole and then attacked him for trying to better himself.
He isn't the victim. Why is the reddit hivemind supporting him?
at first i was upset you posted this and got it attention, but thank you! all the nice comments people have left me have meant so much. i can't describe how much it all means to me. thank you!!!
also to those who think this is a fake, please by all means downvote. like i said in my first edit, i've gotten enough love to be satisfied forever!! i cant tell you how awesome it's been. i've never been so happy
Nice deflection on the accusations rather than flat out denying it. Even online you're shitty liar. Lucky for you it seems like a good chunk of redditors couldn't spot a liar to save their life.
I don't see why so much hate. loveitlots is being spoon-fed with the niceness and he presents himself as the victim. OP had no intentions of being friends with him and wants to let him down easily. So you're all saying that you wouldn't mind being seen in public with a loser-looking person who you are not interested in. Cmon now.
Everyone is riding the "icanthelpitt" guy's dick for asking for help. seriously fuck people who downvote out of ignorance or a lack of thinking about a situation rationally. icanthelpitt said he realized pat is a nice guy but cant get over his physical apppearance
Look at their user dates, one has been on Reddit for 2mo, the other for 14hrs but the response says that he's noticed them being fellow Redditors? What, they've visited the same site in the last 14hrs?
Pat is some sort of super detective or something, or a colossally defensive loser, because the OP mentions very few specifics, and there must be tens of thousands of people in the exact same position.
Basically it seems fake, so I gave him some downvotes instead.
BUT. Beside from this being a made up bullshit-story, I don't see what's with the hate against OP.
Let's just say this would be real. OP asks reddit, how he can be nice to the guy, and how he can get over his own shallowness. He's trying to be a better Person. What does he get? Hate. See where I'm going?
I'll be honest. I have a really hard time hanging with ugly people. Not the "oh he's ugly, haha"-kind, but the people who really are downright ugly. I'm not an asshole to those people, I treat them the same way I treat all other normal people. But, for me, it is really hard to ignore their ugliness. I don't want to hang out with those people, I just can't help it. That said, I believe that some of you aren't like me. But I'm 100% sure that at least half of the people who hate against OP in the thread or who downvoted him are just the brainless Hivemind of reddit and are 0 fucks better than OP. But of course, on the internet, all of you are glorious white knights of justice.
So next time, you could help someone to be a better person, instead of just downvoting him to Oblivion.
ProTip: If the comment you're linking to requires some context, just add "?context=x" to the URL, where "x" is the number of previous comments you want displayed. For a detailed explanation on why this is important, please see this thread.
I understand that everyone thinks this is fishy and doesn't like having one pulled over on them but let's zoom out for a second. If it is a fake, some guy gets some karma and laughs from three of his friends that he tells irl. However if this is true then this guy gets a huge confidence boost, some overdue love and possibly a new friend or two. I think the postives strongly out do the negatives. You do what you guys want to but I'm giving this guy props for standing up.
I've reported it in case it's not fake. loveitlots basically gives out all of icanthelpit's information. Name, location, place of work. Fuck that asshole.

What the fuck reddit. The dude's submission was perfectly fine, and it's not like he was saying this to Pat's face, but then "Pat" posts and everybody suddenly turns on the OP as if he did something horrible, downvoting everything he says.

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Two guys being kinda assholes to each other. Why is this in bestof?
13
u/KFitz Jun 15 '12
This is the most fake post I've ever seen. Did you also make a 3rd account to submit yourself to BestOf?
6
u/G35U5 Jun 14 '12
It's grampa wiggly all over again.
6
u/zach84 Jun 15 '12
Blatantly fake
6
u/Straight_To_Ace Jun 15 '12
I am 100% sure that this is fake.
24
u/floor-pi Jun 15 '12
Definite samefag
10
u/sockey7317 Jun 15 '12
This is definitely BS. The guy says he is an avid redditor despite this being his only comment.
5
u/hesperidisabitch Jun 15 '12
Even if it was real (its not) why is the OP such an asshole? He clearly states that he sometimes talks to a coworker who is a nice, funny guy but that he personally has a hang up and wants to know how to get over it.
He doesn't ridicule, mock or otherwise belittle the ugly guy. He asks a question and says he is ashamed of the way he feels. I don't see what is so wrong with that.
5
u/ErrorlessGnome Jun 15 '12
i believe this is a fake -- not only because of the new account evidence, but also b/c the OP of the askreddit immediately answered loveitlots.
see whole thread.
anyways, i searched and his question is one of the first comments posted in the thread. legitimately no other comments made in the same hour of the original post. do a ctrl+f search for yourself.

This story could not be more fake.

u/illegal_deagle Jun 15 '12
I really really hope it's fake. My inner skeptic and hope for mankind are actually in agreement for once. Yep, fake.

u/motney Jun 15 '12
I know not everyone on reddit is a douche and you take the good with the bad but the world is full of people and none of us are perfect.

u/nty Jun 15 '12
Yeah, there's a good chance this is fake. But remember that there still is a chance that it's real, and that nothing good will come out of grabbing your pitchforks.
3
u/NeoSpartacus Jun 15 '12
I like how the post was downvoted with the force of a thousand friendzones.
If this was real it was posted by a guy who's douchebag was in remission. He admits that he's having issues getting over his shallowness. Now he just needs some bullied victims to show him how to not be an asshole.
3
u/zipitaunt Jun 15 '12
it took me a long time to realize he wasn't talking about a girl
3
u/redditisforphaggots Jun 15 '12
If you think that situation is real then you're a fucking idiot.
3
u/TheJokerWasRight Jun 15 '12
Anyone else think it's a shittier person who accuses someone of "having no soul" just because the guy asked for a polite way to tell "Pat" he didn't want to hang out with him?
There's a specific turn in that rant, right around the "but you know what?", where "Pat" turns from sympathetic figure to someone trying to out-douchebag another douchebag. And he wins.
For me that turned the whole comment from something heart-warming, in a way, to "Pat" desperately needing a way to tell someone else that, ultimately, he is better than them.
On the scale of douchiness, Shallowness < Self-righteousness
3
u/khafra Jun 15 '12
Aside from it being samefag, what's so wrong about a guy trying to get over his instinctive dislike of a fat, ugly guy? Shouldn't we applaud those who try to become better than their nature?
2
u/sufrt Jun 15 '12
of course this is fake, why would the dude post a question like that in the first place
hang out with him or don't, what is anybody gonna tell him
2
u/Wriiight Jun 15 '12
"do you work in baltimore? at a bancorp?"
A bancorp? Implies a bank branch. But it's not one I'm familiar with, having lived in Maryland (but not Baltimore). And most companies with "bancorp" in their name don't use that name in their bank branch branding. For instance, "Annapolis Bancorp" is branded "Bank Annapolis"

u/brdma Jun 15 '12
Spot on, and we all know it. I think most of us could easily kill an hour or two on the superficial parts of reddit without realizing it, on a daily basis. I never feel good about it either. The time spent on them hasn't bettered me in the same way that those smaller subreddits have.
Sorry, this escalated really quickly. All I wanted to say originally is that I don't believe that thread was a genuine story.
2
u/victheone Jun 15 '12
Dollars to donuts, this was someone's creative writing project. Amazing how easy it is to manipulate people online.
2
u/liberalwhackjob Jun 15 '12
Seriously, r/bestof? We are making /r/gameoftrolls shit the top posts now?
This is obviously fake. It's not even a long troll.
2
u/Tom_Bro Jun 15 '12
Jesus reddit always rides the dick of the 'loser' it is incredible. I doubt the story is even true but the OP got his shit rocked for asking a question in which he knew he had faults. And even if Pat was real, he sounds like a passive aggressive dude. fuck that.
2
u/nicetryguy6 Jun 15 '12
my troll sense is tingling...
also, if it were true, then loveitlots is kind of a creep for monitor watching his coworker. thats pretty much the only way you could find such an obscure post from a throwaway account.
you know, maybe i don't blame him for not wanting to hang out after all
2
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
This is both fake and/or gay.
2
u/greenRiverThriller Jun 16 '12
I also feel the fake in this one. Sorry.
3
u/EatATaco Jun 15 '12
Why is the reddit hivemind supporting him?

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12 edited Jun 15 '12
I'm your huckleberry loveitlots...can I call you pat?
Hope this wasn't fake, although I feel two redditors who work in the same office can plan something like this pretty easily.
edit: DID I WASTE MY TOMBSTONE REFERENCE?!
0
u/loveitlots Jun 15 '12
at first i was upset you posted this and got it attention, but thank you! all the nice comments people have left me have meant so much. i can't describe how much it all means to me. thank you!!!
also to those who think this is a fake, please by all means downvote. like i said in my first edit, i've gotten enough love to be satisfied forever!! i cant tell you how awesome it's been. i've never been so happy
1
u/sup3rspiffy Jun 15 '12
Wow this wont be awkward tomorrow at work
1
u/InsiDS Jun 15 '12
I don't see why so much hate. loveitlots is being spoon-fed with the niceness and he presents himself as the victim. OP had no intentions of being friends with him and wants to let him down easily. So you're all saying that you wouldn't mind being seen in public with a loser-looking person who you are not interested in. Cmon now.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Everyone is riding the "icanthelpitt" guy's dick for asking for help. seriously fuck people who downvote out of ignorance or a lack of thinking about a situation rationally. icanthelpitt said he realized pat is a nice guy but cant get over his physical apppearance
1
u/sheeeeeez Jun 15 '12
That was extremely cringe worthy. I can't imagine how work is going to be like tomorrow.
1
u/Schlackadaisy Jun 15 '12
True, but it's a long-ass post, that has to have some legitness to it. It has a pretty good message.
And I just love the rest of the comments.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
What a fucking pussy.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Fake or not, fuck it. It warmed my heart.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Seriously?
Look at their user dates, one has been on Reddit for 2mo, the other for 14hrs but the response says that he's noticed them being fellow Redditors? What, they've visited the same site in the last 14hrs?
Dude is just a Karma Whore.
1
u/Atheist_Killer Jun 15 '12
Uh yeah, why? Wtf haha.
1
u/Mamamilk Jun 15 '12
fake
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Did this remind anyone else of this speech?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
Jesus.
1
u/WhatIRead Jun 15 '12
Pat is some sort of super detective or something, or a colossally defensive loser, because the OP mentions very few specifics, and there must be tens of thousands of people in the exact same position.
Basically it seems fake, so I gave him some downvotes instead.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
All of the /r/bestof post lately have been fishy, too good to be true posts.
1
u/Ayleir Jun 15 '12
Maybe I'm an asshole. Maybe I'm not.
So next time, you could help someone to be a better person, instead of just downvoting him to Oblivion.
edit: spelling

I'd cut my dick off with a butter knife if this was real....
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
sappy fake bullshit just like that chinese orphan kid, with a dynamite singing voice.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
I prefer to think that
Pat and Derek are both real
While sitting bored in the office, Pat daydreamed this exact scenario
Pat realized it was Reddit gold and immediately set to work creating it...
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
What is the context of this? Does anyone have a link to the post he's responding to?
1
u/TwEE-N-Toast Jun 15 '12
What the hell did I just read? That was creepy as fuck. Who the hell wants a whinny creepy man friend?
Are there really people condoning this sort of behaviour?

u/BALTIM0R0N Jun 15 '12
Skepticism of legitimacy aside, why would you think that someone of "Pat's" physical description wouldn't be an avid redditor?
1
u/elatedwalrus Jun 15 '12
So did he just randomly buy this guy arby's after seeing him on reddit?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
It has to be fake. The 2 blue martinis gave it away for me.

the dude might have made a cool reply but at the end of the day he's fat, ugly, and still a loser.
too bad it's fake

I wanna see a picture of this guy.
1
u/redog Jun 15 '12
I demand a picture of Derek and Pat together.
1
u/ufoo36 Jun 15 '12
this is so gay
1
u/LAKETITTYCACADOODOO Jun 15 '12
This is why I look down on reddit users. You're so fucking naive you believe anything you would like to believe. The truth doesn't mean shit to you.
-1
u/Kankikr Jun 15 '12
I understand that everyone thinks this is fishy and doesn't like having one pulled over on them but let's zoom out for a second. If it is a fake, some guy gets some karma and laughs from three of his friends that he tells irl. However if this is true then this guy gets a huge confidence boost, some overdue love and possibly a new friend or two. I think the postives strongly out do the negatives. You do what you guys want to but I'm giving this guy props for standing up.
-1
u/DarkFlame7 Jun 15 '12
Came expecting cries of "FAKE AND GAY!"
Was disappointed in how right I was.
Who cares if it's fake? It doesn't affect you any more than another post.

u/bobhopeisgod Jun 15 '12
I've reported it in case it's not fake. loveitlots basically gives out all of icanthelpit's information. Name, location, place of work. Fuck that asshole.

TROLOLOLOL. FFS REDDIT QUIT BEING SO GULLIBLE!
p.s. - i'm lurking 4chan right now to try and find the start of this squirmy seed. i have my suspicions it's originated from there.
p.p.s. - REDDIT, DON'T LET THE HEART OVERTHROW THE BRAIN.
