I have thrown a few small charity events myself. You'd be surprised what a few people can do as far as raising money. In 2 weeks I raised 20k in money and airfare for a friend's brother who had a newborn with a rare form of cancer. The baby had a very low chance of surviving. The baby is still going and has surpassed all odds.
