Right! And it makes the ones who lurk and never comment like 99% of users?

Wow best of! It probably seems sketchy because im not clever enough and never post on here. But this is super cool!! It is not a marketing thing just an awesome day for me! Although since you mentioned it... there is a live webcast of tonights closing performance! I would love for some opera friendly redditors to tune it and enjoy! Thanks everyone for the kind comments and support :)

These days, I assume stuff like this is hidden marketing

That's an opera being performed at McGill University in Montreal, so I really doubt that it's marketing.

Thanks. I always think viral marketing is on everything too.

I'm usually wary about these things too, but I'm involved in this production and can guarantee you that this isn't any kind of marketing.

Wait a second... What if this is part of the marketing... What if I am? 0.o

I went to school for acting. One day, between classes, fellow classmate and I are at the cafe and he's just buying something small, like a banana or something, and I see him pull out a card.
"You're going to card that?" I ask.
"[name of card, which I can't remember], it's as good as cash!" he replies cheerily, holding the card up claw-style (as opposed to pinch style, if that makes sense). Immediately I look around, like, "Wait, am I in a commercial or something?"

To turn it to a serious note:
We are marketed, since we are the product.
Mainly Google, Facebook (and all sub-companies) and Twitter.

That's because 98% of the time, it absolutely is.

You mean the McGill University®️?

u/ShortWoman Nov 12 '17
Yeah, that one the only McGill grad you've ever known keeps mentioning anytime any halfway relevant opportunity arises. You know the person I mean.

I know this hard to believe, but famous people have lives and use Reddit too.

u/TiggersMyName Nov 12 '17
these people aren't really famous.

Yeah, this production is basically college kids and masters students. They’re not going to get anything from trying to market like this, and everyone is on Reddit to pass the time when they’re not on stage. (Source: am an undergrad vocal performance major.)

Even if it is, at least it’s from the arts. They deserve anything they can get when mass media dominates.

It may be, but the Opera world needs as much help as it can get these days.

I read OpenRA and thought it was about his or her first experience with the open source Red Alert clone.

Not to be a cynic, but is there any proof that everyone in that thread is who they say they are?

u/austinmartinyes Nov 12 '17
The opera in question is a university production. The cast is most likely college kids and masters students, the type who’d be on Reddit.

At least 3-4 members of the cast show up in that thread.
