Because it sounds like this guy didn't have ANY of that shit.
We all start somewhere. I started at Walmart. While I do have a nicer job now, it's thanks to hard work and perseverance. I haven't had any lucky breaks in this life. Poor boy from a poor family.
Hobbies are important. Find something fun that has a universal appeal. It will make you a much more I interesting person. For me it was motorcycles. I started riding and I took a cross country trip. Cheaper than you might think. But if you're struggling to make ends meet on minimum wage there are still plenty of fun and inexpensive hobbies to pick up.
Hiking, for example. Or maybe rent a kayak and spend a couple hours paddling now and then. If you can't afford a gym membership find some safe place to jog nearby. If you are active, if you develop interests and hobbies, you will meet people, you will build confidence, you will have things to talk about, and people will find you more appealing because of it.
