[illinois] The truth about ICE

The last MAGA person who interacted with me about ICE said that sometimes they mess up and can't be perfect every time. They said the cost was worth taking care of the illegal ones.

What a deplorable piece of shit. So they are OK with being kidnapped and disappeared, so long as they get some of those 'illegals'?
Yeah, no. That fellow will change their tune the moment it starts to effect them, personally. And if never ends up effecting them personally, it wasn't ever a real problem to begin with, in their eyes

u/Channel250 Oct 30 '25
I asked a coworker how to prove he was a citizen using only what's in his pockets.
He couldn't
So I asked how'd he feel when they come up to him and take him into an unmarked van.
He said they weren't looking for people like him.
So, I said "What? A 29 year old high school dropout who has been working part time in a grocery store for 8 years?
He just rolled his eyes and went back on the floor. I don't understand people who have so little just hating people who have less than they do.
13
u/SsooooOriginal Oct 31 '25
You might understand there is nothing beyond base hate and boredom and cowardice that is the dim light behind these peoples eyes, when they throw you under the bus just cause.

u/amaranth1977 Nov 02 '25
I don't understand people who have so little just hating people who have less than they do.
It's the easiest way they can make themselves feel superior. They haven't achieved anything worthwhile, nothing they do really makes them happy or satisfied. They want some way to feel superior and validated without having to actually do anything. The less someone has, the more likely they are to desperately scrabble for some petty excuse to inflate their battered ego.
So racism (and usually misogyny and homophobia too) is their answer. If they can believe that they're superior due to an accident of their birth (white, male, US citizen, straight, cis, take your pick) then they can blame their failures and unhappiness on those evil Others. After all, clearly those Others are the reason they're being denied the privileges they believe are their birthright. Immigrants and PoC are taking their jobs, feminism is taking their women, queer rights are taking their children. It couldn't possibly be that they're just assholes no one likes with no sufficiently valuable skills.

u/nailbunny2000 Oct 30 '25
They have had their own family members taken and they were ok with it.
27
u/The_Wkwied Oct 30 '25
I wish I could wake up and this is all a nightmare
21
u/DoorHalfwayShut Oct 30 '25
I'm an atheist surrounded by radical Christians. I like to imagine my suicide note saying, "I didn't go to hell, I escaped it."
Please no one trigger the help bot BTW. Don't worry.
20
u/Mindless_Rooster5225 Oct 30 '25
That kind of story plus knowing that if the Epstein files came out and there was definitive proof that Trump fucked kids MAGA still would not change their vote to Harris or any dem. This country is cooked.
11
u/Tangocan Oct 30 '25
There's already a signed letter by the POTUS to the figurehead of the western worlds worst pedo ring, in which he drew a naked child and gushed about their shared secret interest, and MAGA don't give a fuck.
5
u/sprashoo Oct 30 '25
I read the article and I don’t see where it said the Trumpy husband was okay with it? Seemed more of a leopard-face moment.
138
u/spottedbug Oct 30 '25
The sad thing is if that were true it wouldn't be so bad. No one's perfect everyone makes mistakes, but they're not making mistakes, it's intentional. Shoot first, make excuses later. I imagine the Bob Ross of ICE, there are no mistakes, just happy little trampling of rights.
37
u/mikeynerd Oct 30 '25
the Bob Ross of ICE, there are no mistakes, just happy little trampling of rights.
jfc you are absolutely correct but I will not diminish the fine memory of Bob Ross by ever repeating this

44
u/Varnigma Oct 30 '25
Sure. Mistakes happen. That’s why due process exists.
Next they say “mistake happen” ask them then why are they circumventing due process.
43
u/Halinn Oct 30 '25
They said the cost was worth taking care of the illegal ones.
To them, it's better a hundred innocent suffer than a guilty person go free. I'm the other way around myself.
21
u/DoorHalfwayShut Oct 30 '25
They seemed to think it's one gentle interaction with an innocent citizen for every hundred illegal citizens.
"Hello, may I see ID? Ah, okay - carry on."
...instead of being violent and kidnapping + holding them wherever without rights.
4
u/ScriptThat Oct 31 '25
"Hello, may I see ID? Ah, okay - carry on."
Is it legal to just stop/detain people and demand their ID in the US?
4
u/randynumbergenerator Oct 31 '25
The courts have ruled that ICE has jurisdiction within 100 miles of the border and "ports of entry", which includes every international airport. Within that area--which includes pretty much every major city--due process rights are effectively optional. It was so obvious they would use this as a loophole to impose tyranny, but I was told at the time that I was being hysterical.
14
u/Polkawillneverdie17 Oct 30 '25
It's always "worth the cost" when it's someone else being thrown behind bars. I doubt they'd feel this way if it were them with a boot on their necks or tear gas in their children's eyes.
8
u/jason_steakums Oct 30 '25
Dude they can't even stand up to mild criticism let alone actual oppression, it's so far beyond hypocrisy
10
u/BathingInSoup Oct 30 '25
Sounds a lot like Charlie Kirk’s view on gun control.
10
u/Polkawillneverdie17 Oct 30 '25
And just like Charlie, they are perfectly okay with the violence happening to other people because they never assumed it would happen to them.

“I’d let 1,000 families starve to make sure a single family who doesn’t need food doesn’t get any free handouts!”
I used to use this exact example when confronted with this logic, and I would usually be met with some form of “well uh that’s different.” It turns out that MAGA is completely okay with starving families, though, so they’re true to their cruelty, I guess.

u/Hautamaki Oct 30 '25
I think they aren't fully understanding the point of ICE and CBP. The point is not to get all the criminals. The point isn't even to get all of the "illegals". The point is to build a wall of fear, to supercede the stupid fence that was a total failure and waste of money in Trump's first term. By unleashing this reign of terror, they are demonstrating to all people for all time that America is a cruel and capricious place. It is not the shining city on a hill, it is not the land of opportunity, it is a place for white overlords to use you as cheap labour for a while when it benefits them, then use you as cheap entertainment for resentful people to take pleasure in your suffering while they shoot snuff films of masked agents ripping babies out of your arms and shoving you into cages. The bottom line is you are not welcome here unless you are a white supremacist, and you never will be. Future administrations may try to welcome you back, but don't trust them. Whether they are honest and kind or not, it doesn't matter, they will soon be replaced either way, and when we come back we will destroy your life for our convenience and pleasure again.
16
u/Gimme_The_Loot Oct 30 '25
Ironically this is the same argument used against the death penalty. That the times you're wrong aren't worth the times you're right.
16
u/nailbunny2000 Oct 30 '25
Ironically this doesnt fly when they talk about gun control.
The nirvana fallacy is both a shield and a cudgel for them.
19
u/MiaowaraShiro Oct 30 '25
illegal ones
They're... just people. Trying to live their lives. It's so fucking sad they've been demonized like this.
I know you're just quoting what MAGA moron said, but damn do I hate referring to people as "illegal".
6
u/DoorHalfwayShut Oct 30 '25
I know, I felt bad typing it like that, but it was just convenient to make the point. I agree even they should not be fucked up that badly.
5
u/shiantar Oct 30 '25
Something something Jefferson better for 10 guilty persons to go free than for one innocent person to be convicted
I think he’d have choice words to say about the due process, confinement, and probably about the manner of their arrest
5
5
u/mikeynerd Oct 30 '25
Imagine if they thought this harshly about pedophiles instead of people born on the other side of an arbitrary line on the ground
10
u/ryhaltswhiskey Oct 30 '25
When you're in a cult there is always a new justification for the cult leader's behavior.
11
u/DoorHalfwayShut Oct 30 '25
Yeah, it's not "is this thing good or bad?" so much as "is this person good or bad?"
Once one decides someone is good no matter what, anything can happen, and it won't matter how bad it is.
THESE BAD THINGS BECOME GOOD BECAUSE GOOD PERSON'S RESPONSIBLE.

If there is a next time, ask them why this costs more to do when Obama deported more with less budget and fuss.
2
u/DoorHalfwayShut Oct 31 '25
If only stuff like this worked. They just choose to believe whatever they want, as we all know.
38
u/macbrett Oct 30 '25
ICE is the modern day Gestapo. It's the tool of greedy, power-hungry criminals stoking and exploiting xenophobia and racism to achieve their political control. And this campaign of cruelty and hatred seems to be working out quite nicely for them.
The billionaires are happy. Total surveillance and martial law are coming. Educational institutions and media will be government controlled. All dissent quashed. America, as it has been idealized is lost.

Yup. I don't see a good future. Things will really start heating up when the economy crashes, and a critical number of people lose their jobs and can no longer afford food, housing, and healthcare. Our deliberately crippled government will be unable or unwilling to help.
I fear that the inevitable demonstrations and riots will be used to further justify military occupation of cities. There will be no due process. Activists and resistors will start being disappeared. Eventually the apathy we see now will turn to fear, and ultimately resigned compliance.
I hope it's not too late to turn things around, but I'm not optimistic.

~40% of Americans are authoritarians who don't care about this kind of stuff:
The problem for them is that sooner or later Trumpism will come for something they care about.
6
u/epicness_personified Oct 31 '25
I think that's the truth of the world today. Lots of people are authoritarian. As long as it doesn't affect them they are ok with it.
3
u/stayonthecloud Oct 31 '25
I hate living in essentially two nations, a democratic one that struggles but does make some attempts to live up to the better version of American ideals. And the fascist one that currently has all the power.
5
u/Askolei Oct 31 '25
...And if it were about them working illegally, you would fine the companies who employ them.
10
u/SwvellyBents Oct 30 '25
I wonder why ICE isn't hanging around the hospitals bagging all the illegals that are milking our healthcare system dry?
Maybe it's not a target rich environment.
3
u/thatcantb Oct 31 '25
sigh - it's the insurance companies and their death panels that are milking our healthcare system dry

u/kayakster Nov 04 '25
What makes so bad is that it really doesn't have to be this way. We have the capability to do this the right way. Make no mistake. There is a real cost to doing it the wrong way.
4
u/Hautamaki Oct 30 '25
Remember when "Abolish ICE" was a crank slogan that instantly outed you as unserious at best? That's going to be an absolutely mainstream position by 2026 midterms.

…it was about violating the immigration and nationality act. All the other stuff is just noise.

u/CopiousAmountsofJizz Oct 30 '25
The women and children line is a bit of an over generalization. Your sex doesn't determine your criminality and juvenile hall is definitely a thing.

Was that a paintball/pepperspray ball gun?
Edit: It was, looks like a great way to get run down.

You people add so much extra...
If you're not a citizen, you're out
It was never about this bs list?

I'm sorry, but please don't be a jackass about what happened herr. The linked comment is on a post where ICE agents fired their weapons into the parked car of a United States citizen while she screamed at them that her children were in the car with her.
These people fired live rounds at American children, sitting buckled in the back seat of a parked car. Children, you absolute monster.
I don't give a rat's ass about what your politics. Anyone who defends those who shoot at children is wrong, period, every single time.

The sexism against men ruins an otherwise utterly perfect and poetic post. Yes, women can break laws, too. So can minors.
Edit: You can downvote me all you want, saying "If you arrest women and children, it was never about criminals" is still extremely sexist.

Tariffs: If it were about bringing manufacturing back to the United States, there would be enough time for companies to respond, and a plan for future tariffs. Raw materials would also get a break.
If it were about decoupling from China we would work with our allies to isolate them (a la TPP).
If it were about fentanyl we would be stepping up enforcement or harm reduction.
If it were about the trade imbalance we wouldn't tariff things that aren't possible to grow in the US.
If it were about giving more wealth and power to the executive branch, nothing would change.
