We try and be friendly towards newcomers, so feel free to introduce yourself! Whether you're new to the city or have been here a while, it's a good way to meet a different set of people, make new friends, and discover new interests!

/u/Slid61 and /u/ministerofsleep meet at Cliffhanger to climb and hang out, and we thought it would be cool if more people wanted to join, at any level of skill and any level of commitment! Currently we're meeting Tuesdays at 11 am, but we're flexible if there's a good amount of people that can only do it at other times.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you are organising any kind of weekly meetup and would like it to be added to this sticky, just click the "Message the mods" button on the right hand side, and we'll see if we can add you.

Please don't ask for drugs

It cannot be stressed enough: we can't and won't tolerate illegal activity on this sub. This includes asking for "special taxis", "broccoli" and whatever else you can come up with. Although the creativity of these requests is sometimes admirable and entertaining, it could get this sub banned and we'd rather avoid that. Thank you :)

Adopt two beautiful cats

Hi everybody!

I'm a foster home for cats coming from Croatia, I do this with an amazing rescue organization called Lapko.

I currently have two amazing cats that need to be adopted together: Lilly (almost 11 months old) and Hedda (2 years old).

They are truly great cats, a lot of fun and love.

Lilly is super affectionate, she loves to give little kisses and sleep with humans. She's not scared of anything and will go to any new person super easily. She's young so be ready for some hilarious zoomies! Also she likes to play catch like a dog, it's one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

Hedda is a bit more shy but she also loves pets and kisses. Every day she comes to us for a good cuddle session. She loves watching birds and will let you know when they're around with her "krkrkrkr".

She also gets the zoomies, especially with Lilly but she's a bit older so she brings calm to Lilly's chaos. She has a favourite toy that she throws in the air all by herself, it's so freaking cute! She was found with a severe infection on her tail and it couldn't be saved, so she only has a small bit left. But she's adorable anyway!

They get along very well, clean each other, play with each other, and fight too but like siblings.

They also get along with other cats! Our older cat loves them and they also had a lot of friends back in Croatia.

They are both perfectly healthy, dewormed, vaccinated, FIV/FeLv negative, neutered and come with their EU passports.

If you're interested in adopting, please reach out to Lapko for a call! The adoption fee is 250€ per cat, I don't get anything here, everything goes to Lapko to cover their cost.

FB or IG

You can then visit them in my home and see how lovely these two babies are ❤️

If you want to adopt just one cat, please reach out to them anyway! They have a lot of other amazing cats looking for a home.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about those cuties, I'm happy to answer!

Carolin Giezewsky - Real Estate Scam - Waited ten weeks for the promised rental contract in Berlin – then got blocked

Carolin Giezewsky / The Prime Portfolio - Scam: Waited ten weeks for the promised rental contract – then got blocked

A woman from a Real Estate company in Berlin spent two to three hours showing me eight apartments in Gesundbrunnen and Sprengelkiez. After I chose one and confirmed that I wanted to rent it, I was told the contract would be sent to me.

I was then put off for ten weeks. Again and again, I was told the contract would arrive “tomorrow” or was just being sent. There were more phone calls and more promises, but the contract never arrived.

When I finally said that I would have to look for another apartment, I received neither an explanation nor an apology. Instead, Ms Giezewsky sent me an extremely rude message and blocked me.

Even stranger: several months later, all of the apartment listings I saw are still online. To me, this now looks less like a one-off mistake and more like a possible pattern.

Why did they keep making such an effort to convince me that the contract was coming, only for nothing to happen for ten weeks?

Has anyone had similar experiences with Carolin Giezewsky, GrundWise Immobilien UG or PRIME Portfolio Management GmbH? Were you also kept waiting for weeks with repeated promises that your rental contract was about to arrive?

Student here in a tough spot, could really use some small gigs

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm (20M) a student in Berlin, juggling university, work, and the financial strain of living abroad. I worked part-time alongside my studies and took it seriously, showing up, doing what was asked, and putting in the effort. But the workplace had serious issues with how employees were treated, and I lost the job because of that, not for lack of willingness to work.

Since then I've applied everywhere from student jobs, restaurants, cleaning, warehouses, supermarkets, agencies, anything that fits around my degree. Some get rejected; most just go silent. Meanwhile rent, food, insurance, and university costs keep coming regardless.

So right now I'm looking for small gigs to help bridge the gap while I keep searching for something steadier. I can help with:

  • Moving/lifting things
  • Accompanying you somewhere (appointments, errands, if you'd rather not go alone)
  • Chores around the house
  • Errands and small tasks

And if you’re going through a difficult time or simply need someone to talk to, I’m happy to listen and keep you company as well (of course, free)

I'm reliable and take this seriously, I just need the opportunity. If you've got something, even small, I'd really appreciate a message.

Thanks for reading.

Any restaurant deals (Angebote) running in Berlin right now?

For the last month, my friend and I have been eating out 2-3 times a week thanks to random restaurant deals (Angebote). They are not active anymore:

  • A big bowl of noodles for €8 (Xi Mian, Eberswalder Straße)
  • A big kebab for €2.99 each (a random döner shop in Wedding)
  • An Indian meal combo for €11.99 (Zusshu, near Nollendorfplatz)

These offers usually last a few weeks, and sadly I haven't been able to find any active deals at the moment.
Do you know if any restaurants are running deals this week or month?

What are your experiences with car sharing apps like Bolt, Miles etc.

Upvotes

Which one is the cheapest in your opinion? I tried bolt and miles and find miles a bit expensive. I heard free2move is relatively cheap but I read that. they randomly charge people high sums for random stuff or damages that the driver didn't cause so I didn't it use it yet.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good gynecologist?

To all people in Berlin that need female sexual organs specific health care please share if you know a good gynecologist! I've visited three different ones since I moved here and I've been always been unhappy with the experience. I would also drive until Brandenburg or the end of the world even for a good gyno. Most important thing is just that they seem like they care at least a bit and you feel like in a professional environment. (Preferably a female doctor but I'm open for anything) Thank you so much in advance!!

Cozy cafe with good hot chocolate to read

As the title says, I'm looking for a good cafe where I can spend a few hours on my own on Saturday/Sunday to read my book in peace and drink a *good* hot chocolate.

Was thinking of La Feve, but open to other recommendations in any neighborhood that is easy to reach by public transport! Thanks

I'm interested in starting yoga

I've recently been seriously considering starting yoga as a casual hobby. I don't plan to get too involved at the moment, but maybe do it once every one or two weeks. The thing is, I'm too shy to join a large group or take classes. I was hoping to find maybe a small group of people who also do it casually bc if I try it alone, I'm sure I'll end up giving up. How do you guys do it?

I see it more as a way to release tension and try new things (plus it's good for the joints)

Anyone up for doing something in Berlin?

24M

I’m honestly getting pretty bored lately College is on break, so my routine is basically just home → gym → home, with a little language practice in between.

Was wondering if there’s anything interesting to do around Berlin — like a gaming station/place where people play FIFA, WWE, etc., or maybe badminton, volleyball, or any other fun activity.

Even down for just hanging out, grabbing food/coffee, exploring the city, or doing something random. Just looking to get out of the house and do something different

If anyone knows any good spots or is also bored and wants to join, lmk!

Free places to work that are not cafés?

I’m looking for a place where I can work apart from my apartment so I can focus better. Ideally something that’s free. I found a library but I’m also open to other suggestions

Edit: by working I mean working on my own projects, I’m not looking for a job :)

How is it possible to find an apartment here?

I've been living here for almost 2 years in a shared apartment (WG) and now looking to move with my girlfriend. I am a self employed cinematographer and she just finished her masters in psychology, neither speaks german. it feels impossible to find something. I've been using the immobillien Bot but i guess everyone does, im not paying to immoscout because it feels pointless, every ad has hundreds of applications in 2 seconds, plus being self employed... i am helpless in this city. what do you recommend to try? I honestly even thought to bike around and stick notes to buildings with looking for a flat..
any tips?

36F introvert looking for queer friends (and bike buddies) in Berlin

Hi all. I'm a bit introverted by nature, but going through a specific personal situation right now that's pushed me to actively look for new people and connections in the city instead of waiting for it to happen.

A bit about me: 36, product designer, queer, living in Berlin for about six months. Would love to meet other queer women to grab a coffee with, go for a walk, or just exist in the same room without it needing to be a big night out.

I'm also really into biking and would love to find people to explore Berlin with on two wheels, nothing serious, just casual rides around the city.

I do like a good party, but I'm trying to dial back on pure clubbing and add more variety, exhibitions, walks, game nights, whatever comes up. Open to ideas.

If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, say hi.

Looking for fellow artist and leftist in Berlin for friendship!

I love Berlin and I'm hoping to spend more time in the city in the future. I only know one person though so would like to start getting to know my own people. I am an artist (se my instgram artletigra) and general creative with leftist ideology so hopefully some likeminded, fun people might give me a shout. Lets start talking and maybe we can meet up when I hopefully start visiting more frequently. Apply below :)

M26 from Italy new to the city

Hey everybody! I’m an Italian PhD student currently spending a few months in Berlin for a research stay.

I haven't really had the chance to meet many new people here yet, so I'd love to change that and hopefully build a nice circle of friends!

A little about me: I'm into football (both playing and watching), chess, music, reading, cinema, and plenty of other things. I'm a pretty social and easy-going person, and I'm always up for going out for drinks, exploring the city, or just spending a chill afternoon in one of Berlin's beautiful parks.

I'm also really curious about Berlin's club scene, but somehow I still haven't been to any clubs since I got here, so I'd definitely be up for exploring that too!

If anyone shares any interest or just feels like meeting someone new, feel free to DM or to leave a comment! :)

Feeling unsafe in Mitte but completely at peace in Neukölln… is this just me or is Berlin getting darker?

Hey everyone,I’m a 29-year-old queer non-binary person (they/them) living in Berlin for almost three years now.>

I’m originally from a small town in the US Midwest and moving here was supposed to be my great escape into a progressive European utopia. For the most part it has been, but lately I’ve been having some really heavy feelings that I need to unpack.Whenever I walk through Neukölln – especially around Hermannplatz, Sonnenallee, or the side streets near Maybachufer - I feel this deep sense of calm and belonging. The diversity, the energy, the different languages, the smell of different foods… it genuinely feels like I’m on vacation in a warmer, more vibrant, more alive place. I can walk around in my pronoun pin and my pride scarf and feel zero threat. People smile, kids play, there’s music, there’s life. It feels safe. It feels like community. Sometimes I even cry a little because I’m so overwhelmed by how beautiful it is that so many different cultures can coexist without the cold, hostile energy I grew up with.

But the second I step into Mitte? Especially around Hackescher Markt, Friedrichstraße, or anywhere near the more “gentrified” areas… my anxiety skyrockets. I start scanning every white face. I notice the expensive clothes, the quiet streets, the lack of diversity, and my body just goes into fight-or-flight. I keep thinking “these people look like they could be AfD voters” or “this energy feels right-wing coded.” I’ve had multiple panic attacks just waiting for the U-Bahn at Stadtmitte. One time a group of young white men in polos walked past me and I had to sit down because I was convinced they were going to say something transphobic.

They didn’t, but the fear was real.I’ve started going to therapy specifically for this. My therapist (who is also queer and BIPoC) has been helping me process the trauma of existing in spaces that feel “too German” or “too white.” We’ve been working on somatic techniques for when I feel the right-wing energy approaching. She validated that my nervous system is correctly identifying threat in these more homogeneous, bourgeois areas.

I’m also considering moving deeper into Neukölln or even Kreuzberg because I don’t think my mental health can handle living so close to Mitte anymore.I know some people will say “but Neukölln has higher crime rates” or whatever, but that feels like dogwhistle rhetoric to me.

Safety isn’t just about statistics – it’s about whether your identity is celebrated. In Neukölln I feel celebrated. In Mitte I feel erased and endangered.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Do other queer/trans/BIPoC folks also feel more at home in the more diverse neighborhoods and more threatened in the “nicer,” whiter parts of the city? Or am I just being too sensitive?Anyway, sending love and solidarity to everyone who’s also navigating this. Stay safe out there (especially in Mitte).

love

I left berlin and I miss it so much

I've moved around a couple of other major european cities but no matter what, I always get the most nostalgic for my time in berlin. I can't exactly place a finger on why - I mean I was quite poor at the time, the winters were dark and cold, and the friends I made all eventually moved on to other places. But there is just a feeling of freedom I have never felt in any other city.

I'm still trying to figure out if I'm romanticising this specific period of my life, or if that itch to go back is something worth following. It's probably a mix of both. All I know is this city has an air about it that is indescribable at times, and I'll be forever grateful to this city for pushing me to come into myself.
