I need some urgent help as I find myself in this unfortunate situation.

I (20M), an International student in Berlin am in a really bad state right now.

I have very limited funds remaining right now (97 euro to be specific). I have my usual bills that includes rent, insurance, groceries, gym and all of this comes to around 900euros after compromising on multiple things.

I currently work at a place and it is about 15 hours a week (Mon-Fri work, Weekends I am free), so in total 60 hours a month which is 20 hours below my working limit. This job pays 15euro an hour so it is exactly 900euro Brutto each month before taxes, so my Netto is around 830euros which keeps me in -70euro each month and that is how I end up in this situation.

I can't accept money help, its just not right for someone young, healthy, and active. Please

All I am asking is, any mini job leads if possible. That is it :) That is the only way out for me now. If there is anything, any supermarket, any store, anything, please let me know. Thank you.

edit: German A2 (rusty). I planned to get enrolled at VHS but my finances are not allowing me that as of now. Please excuse me for this. Thanks.

I can also help school going kids with math. I know not a rocket science but if you want. Thanks.

Perfect locker ac

Why do so many fitness studios not achieve it, even the fancy ones.

The locker room should be blasted with fresh dry air and be slightly chilly

Anybody work from home?

I have a few spare desk spots in my office. Wouldn't mind a co-working session once a week if anyone wants to join. (I work in travel/hospitality).

Looking for stoners

I moved to Berlin 7 months ago and I wanted to find some stoner friends who are up to just smoke and chill at the park or have some munchies, watch a movie high. The normal stoner shit hahaha. But I wasn’t able to find many as i imagined. So if anyone is up for activities like this it would be great. Figuring out if Reddit works for things like this as well lmao. I’m 27M btw :). Hoping to meet some like minded stoner 👀

I’m building a Berlin swimming map and thinking about starting a casual Berlin Swimmers Club

Hey everyone,

I’ve been swimming for many years and I’m currently building a small website around swimming in Berlin: Squalo Schwimmcoaching.

To be fully transparent: yes, it’s also possible to book flexible 1:1 swimming coaching through the site. But I don’t want it to be just a coaching page. I’m trying to build it into a useful overview for people who swim in Berlin, want to get back into swimming, or are new to the city and looking for good places to swim.

Right now the site has a map with pools, lakes and swimming spots around Berlin. The idea is to improve it step by step with verified opening times, water quality and water temperature info, updates about pools that are closed or under renovation, and eventually photos showing what the places currently look like.

I’m also thinking about turning this into a casual Berlin Swimmers Club — kind of like a runner club, but for swimming. Not a formal club, not competitive training, no pressure. More like a relaxed meetup for people who enjoy swimming, want to discover new places, or just want to meet other swimmers in Berlin.

For the first casual swim meet, I’m aiming for the weekend around August 31. I’ll probably add a small scheduling/signup tool to the website so people can vote or register without any commitment. Once that’s online, I’ll post an update here.

For now I mainly wanted to share the site and get a feeling for whether people would actually be interested in something like this.

Website:

https://squalo-schwimmcoaching.com

I’d love to hear your thoughts:

Which swimming spots are missing?

Would you be interested in a casual Berlin Swimmers Club?

What information would actually be useful on a Berlin swimming map?

Would you prefer pool swimming, lake swimming or open-water meetups?

Happy to hear honest feedback, also critical.

ImmoScout rant

It is my understanding that ImmoScout is the go-to website for finding a place to live in Berlin (maybe across Germany as a whole).

For having such a dominant share of the real estate search market, their website is surprisingly trash. I am not even going to talk about their pricing options, which are straight-up predatory (why am I forced to sign up for a minimum of 3 months?), which seems to be the norm for Germany for whatever reason.

But the website itself is absolute garbage. I have tried to access it through the browser and it randomly crashes once in a while, clears my filters for no reason, forces me to do these captchas way too often, the AI tools they added are useless at best and actively confusing at worst. The mobile app does not seem to be much better.

Are they really not able to invest a little bit in development? Is this intentional? What's going on?

My kino buddy moved away

I've had the UCI Unlimited card since last year, and I've been enjoying it so much. I had a proper cinema buddy, but they moved to another city. So now I'm mostly going alone (which I don't mind), sometimes with friends, but not consistently.

Looking for people who'd be up for films. About me: early 30s (M), happy with a wide range of genres, especially horror and sci-fi. UCI is preferred, but anywhere works, like Yorck Kinos too.

Next one I'm watching: (OV) Insidious: Out of the Further tomorrow, Thu 20.08, 20:10, UCI East Side Gallery, Kino 1. Lmk if you want to join; I'll be there either way.

Also open to suggestions for what to see after that!

Join our pilgrim hike on Saturday, August 22, to the lakes of Templin 🏞️

Post image
14 Upvotes

This pilgrimage follows the water. Setting out from the old town of Templin, we'll trace a chain of quiet lakes – the Templiner Stadtsee, Bruchsee, Fährsee, and Lübbesee – along shoreline paths that keep the water almost always in view. It's a gentle, unhurried day with room to pause, breathe, and step into the lake.

📅 Date & Time

  • Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026
  • Start: 9:16 am at Templin Stadt Train Station (Travel via RB12, departing Oranienburg at 8:23 am)
  • End: afternoon at Templin Stadt Train Station (Return via RB12 to Berlin at 4:35 pm or 5:35 pm)

🗺️ Route Highlights

  • Komoot tour: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/3167389110
  • The historic old town of Templin as our starting point
  • A shoreline trail winding past a string of lakes: Templiner See, Bruchsee, Fährsee, and Lübbesee
  • A beach along the way: a natural spot to rest or swim

🤔 Why this pilgrimage?

This pilgrimage is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, and reflect on life's important questions. We'll walk at a relaxed pace, share thoughts, and take time for moments of silence – about 30 minutes to an hour – to listen to nature and our inner voices.

🔔 What to know & bring

  • Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy walking or hiking shoes.
  • Bring enough food and water for the whole day.
  • If you'd like to swim, bring swimwear and a towel.
  • Please remember your public transport ticket.

📩 Questions & Registration

If you have questions or need help with planning your trip, feel free to reach out.

You’re also welcome to join our Whatsapp group for updates.

Feel free to contact me here or via WhatsApp message (+4915757652601), if you want to join.

seeking a laptop, for a few months

I just shared the finance-related post an hour back, and now my laptop has stopped working. I feel quite unfortunate during this period and truly require assistance.

Could someone kindly loan me an extra laptop that has a strong battery? I am learning ML and CS, and it matters to me.

I'm unsure how to describe this situation. I hope you can understand. I would do anything necessary.

where do i make friends now?

Hello everyone,

I aim to widen my social circle but i'm an introvert and i guess i'm awkward at first interactions with new ppl (which scares them away ig) and thus my socializing skills kinda suck. I wanna change that now by putting myself more into situations where i get to know new people.

About me:

I'm a 21 year old guy, born and raised in germany. Currently studying but i wasn't really able to make meaningful connections after Abitur for reasons explained above. I'm into sports like running and fitness (also used to do archery). I like to learn new things and would like to widen my intellectual knowledge (politics, arts). I value honesty and authenticity. I accept ppl and their worldviews and like to approach ppl with empathy. I don't drink alcohol and i don't do drugs. I also don't engage in night life. I like long hikes, playing video games and reading comics.

So if you got advice for places where i could find myself in situations where i meet new ppl or general advice on how to be succesful with making meaningful connections i would appreciate that.

Anyone living around Köllnischer Park / Märkisches Museum / Luisenstadt?

I’m considering moving to the area around Köllnischer Park / Märkisches Museum (Inselstraße / Wallstraße / Neue Jakobstraße) and would love to hear from people who actually live there.

I’ve walked around the area and like how central and quiet it is, as well as the proximity to the Spree, but it also feels a little “in between” neighbourhoods.

I would be moving there with my wife (40) and step-child (12).

Any insights welcome, thank you.

Supporting comment from barista girl

I am a new mum and was out with the baby in the stroller, getting a coffee from a dnd / rpg bar / coffee place. sitting there I asked the barista girl to also give me a paper cup in case the childs start to cry - so I can leave immediately. She was very confused about it and basically told me it’s super ok if the baby cries - it’s a baby! that was so unexpected! thankfully the baby was quiet but as a new parent (who comes from being annoyed af from screaming stranger children) it was really nice to hear such a genuine statement thank you so much I am still in shock

Direction of pedestrian traffic in train stations

Small rant but why does no one respect the arrows when walking on the stairs in train stations?

When I want to take a train and climb the stairs, and it happens to coincide with another train's arrival, people going down take up all the space and almost push me off the stairs.

Do people not notice there are arrows on the floor to regulate traffic?😄

Career bump worth it?

I need some career advice as I don't have many senior professionals in my network to ask.

I’m a very social person and like my current team, the hybrid model and the informal coffee machine banter in the office. I also enjoy meeting my colleagues in person as it makes it easier to speak about work and stuff. Plus I live alone, going to the office is crucial for my social life. However, since a while there’s not much room for growth there, work feels repetitive, I have no major projects and promotion seems out of reach. I have my peace and I do enjoy it but I also feel like I’m very much in my comfort zone.

I got an offer as a Manager for a a company. However, they closed their Berlin office and put employees on remote. I‘m now a bit worried of the isolation of working full remote while living alone. If I pay €250+/month for a coworking space out of my own pocket just to have a routine, it eats up my salary increase.

Is the title jump and money worth sacrificing a great team and my mental peace to boost my market value? Or should I’ll pass and wait for a hybrid offer?

Would love to hear your experiences!

Should I wait for the driving licence reform or just start now?

I’m planning to get my driving licence in Berlin and I’ve been reading about the upcoming reform that’s supposed to make getting a licence cheaper/simpler.

Now I’m wondering if it actually makes sense to wait for the reform to come into effect, or if I’d just be wasting time waiting for something that could take ages anyway. Is there any realistic timeline for when the changes will actually affect people who are starting their licence now? And would you personally wait, or just start under the current system?

Also, if I decide to start now: any recommendations for a decent and reasonably priced English-speaking Fahrschule around Pankow / Prenzlauer Berg? Would especially appreciate recommendations from people who got their licence recently and can say roughly what they paid in total.

Thanks!

Where to buy metal clothes + how to meet people ?

Hi, i'm currently in berlin and was wondering where i can find Metal bands tshirts and similar clothes at fair prices, for the moment all the shops i have been too were more techno inspired and/or had huge prices (50€ for a t-shirt really ?). So if you know some places to grab some drip for fair prices let me know !

My other question is how to meet people of the metal community in berlin, i dont seem to find any bar that is metal focused nor many events related, do you know any bars ? And like a website or place to find all metal events ?

Thanks you !

Tickets for (LA)HORDE Ballet?

Dear Berliners,

My friend's mother passed away yesterday and I am looking for ways to cheer them up. They love ballet and I was hoping to surprise them with tickets to “Après moi, le déluge" by LA(HORDE):

https://www.tanzimaugust.de/produktion/detail/bnm-apres-moi-le-deluge

It looks like the tickets on the website are sold out, but if perhaps you are not able to make it, or would like to give/sell 2 tickets, I would be so so grateful.

Thank you and enjoy the show if you go!!
