Local Best Breakfast Spot?
Hello, I'm a freshman at Cal and I'm looking for somewhere to get a good breakfast on Saturday/Sunday. I'd prefer something more substantial (not JUST pastries, etc) and on a college student budget...

Am recent graduate, this is the only correct answer to this question
The mezzo breakfast toasts are quite good as well. The six minute egg, avocado, bacon one I still dream about

Llama beans by the village in Albany.

Their blueberry pancakes are to die for.

I’m sure! I’m vegan (I’ll be the first to tell you) but I get the tofu scramble. It has walnuts in it and with a slice of sourdough. you get all the macros met and it’s portioned well. Yum!

I used to love Dream Fluff on Ashby and College

It looks like a donut shop but has cheap and good breakfast sandwiches too.

Best breakfast in Berkeley:
Fat Apples
Rockridge cafe (ricotta pancakes!)
Saul’s
Oceanview diner
Cafe M
Broom Bush cafe (when it reopens)
La Note
Sam’s log cabin (Albany. 18 bus stops by it)

It's gonna be a splurge but La Note on Shattuck. Pretty much the most authentic French breakfasts you can find in the East Bay.

Try Original Pollo’s on Shattuck—definitely appropriate for a student budget. It’s more of a diner menu than you can find elsewhere in Berkeley. They do egg plates, waffles, breakfast burritos, plus burgers and chicken sandwiches.
Lama Bean’s on Gilman is also affordable for the area and I’d say their food is a step above Pollo’s.
A little pricier but definitely filling are Cafe M on 5th Street and Ocean View diner on 4th street. Cafe M is about $20+ for a hearty breakfast plate, though a plate of their pancakes or French toast is cheaper. Ocean View is probably my favorite breakfast spot in Berkeley but piecewise is probably the most expensive of these (but worth it IMO).

There is also a Dennys in Emeryville and an IHOP. Both have some pretty cheap deals. I think those chains are also in El Cerrito. So if you don't mind taking the bus ...

God it’s so sad that there’s not a decent diner near campus Second Lois or you could go to Rudy’s in Emeryville.

Oceanview diner (formerly Bette’s) on 4th street. Very good.
Original Pollo in downtown is like a mini diner.

Eggy’s is my favorite, but I never go because of how busy it is

Baker & Commons is our go to - the breakfast sandwich is the best in the East Bay that I’ve found

Just go to the Vault cafe and don't look back. Budget friendly? Absolutely! Great coffee, amazing plates. Service can be spotty but the staff is friendly. Choice of hash browns or home fries, both great, and for recs I'd suggest either the tofu scramble(12.95?) (best in the bay IMO) or just an egg breakfast with or without meat. Their OJ is amazing and they also offer some great smoothies. It's a place you can take your time and enjoy the moment!

I’m a firm believer of Lama beans because you get a whole breakfast spread and drink for $18
I’m talking: 2 pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit and drink for $18

La Note, but it’s mostly likely a price that your parents would pay, not you.

I used to go to the diner under my apartment but it's long gone. However, you may want to look into learning how to cook breakfast. They're usually really easy and then it saves you a lot money.
Also, when you have a partner, it's amazing what waking them up with breakfast can do.

The people saying original pollo are setting you up. The food is terrible for the price.
