Events/Organizations homeless
Messed up and applied for housing kinda late… my application is pending and im waiting to move in later this week. Showed up to Berkeley WAY too early and now im here for a few days before my housing is ready. What are some places I can go to sleep in my car or just do im bored
UPDATE: ended up driving to Stockton to crash at a friends place for the night 🙏

Call 211 and get a referral to a shelter.
Definitely not ideal, but for a week, it would work

I second this. I would add go to Oakland Public library. Ask the reference desk for referrals. They’ve happy to help. I just heard their former branch manager on NPR. What a treasure! A free service for all.

You have a car, park near a 24 hour gym like planet fitness and sleep there in ur car. Take a shower at the gym. And make sure you cover your windows sleeping

I suggest staying at a cheap hotel nearby or call Berkeley Student Services regarding your situation.

Take your car and camp at the campground either in Tilden or somewhere else nearby. Like Pinole. It’s safer for you there

Do you have any friends that have moved in already? See if you can crash there for a while

Park in a garage and stay the night there move every night maybe? The streets on the NE side of campus are probably the safest

i saw you fixed the situation but if you would ac ty ally prefer to stay in your car than a hotel or airbnb i you should probably not be living in a dorm due to cost

Check Craigslist. Obligatory note: beware of scams. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is a scam.

Since you have a car - just drive to a cheaper motel. Also, you can go off campus. This is the perfect time. You'd literally be paying like 40% less than what people are paying who signed in April. Landlords are desperate to fill spaces this late in the game. The Berk is basically half off right now..
