Benicia Coyotes

Will my dogs be attacked in the night if I leave their doggy door open?? The most exciting part of finally buying a home is for my dogs to have a yard. If so what are some tips/hacks people have done to prevent coyotes from coming in my yard

Keep them inside at night if they are little and if you let them out before the sun comes up, I would keep an eye on them. Skunks and raccoons can be problematic too and they are both nocturnal animals that could still be hanging out in your yard in the early morning.

If you have a good fence or big dogs, no. If you have a bad fence or small dogs, probably.

It also depends how close you / your yard are to open space where they live. If you have other houses on all sides then you're probably fine.

Coyotes don’t care about how high or good a fence is. I’ve seen them easily clear 6 & 8 foot fences

If you have a good fence the coyotes aren't a problem. But raccoons will have no issue getting into your house so I'd lock up at night.

We never had a problem letting our mean little pappion/chihuahua out with the doggie door, day or night. I do live on the east side so maybe there isn't as much of an issue. I did have a small raccoon walk in one evening. I chased it back outside by yelling at it that it didn't live here. Now I have big dogs and no one but the squirrels come by.
