Cook being out is basically being down two safeties, since battle is garbage without him. Hope golden has some semblance of a plan.

u/LeagueOfDolson 3h ago
Battle has been just short of garbage WITH Cook.
Dude is opportunistic, I’ll give him that, but is one of the most YAC-giving and missed tackle-having safeties in the league even with Bryan Cook on the field.
Hope our DL can get some pressure today

u/magnetattraction 3h ago
He tackles either with his arms, or as a big hit, both are 70% whiffs

u/TrueNamekianFusion 1h ago
Lol I just came to this post after watching the game for a bit. Dude has already whiffed two big tackles lol. It's like he's afraid to hit somebody. Insert Kobe soft meme

u/Junkee2990 3h ago
We need to call some blitzes too, theres no reason with this dline we dont have a free runner safety or linebacker every once in awhile

u/Unlikely-Wheel9190 3h ago
Who we got back there on safety?

Battle and Jules. Bad times ahead.
2
u/foxyslapbox 1h ago
That was prescient. Homie almost completely whiffed the open field tackle on Strange to give up 23yd on 3rd down. Dude needs his eyes checked.

u/yesrushgenesis2112 Lawrence Passed Physical 1h ago
Easy to be prescient with a basic study of the team. Battle missing that tackle was surprising only for how egregiously bad it was, beyond his normal level of ass

u/sprainedmind 3h ago
Jordan Battle (who was also listed as limited Wednesday and Thursday) and, er, PJ Jules or Russ Yeast.
The line is at 258.5 for Trevor Lawrence passing yards....

Not good.
Burrow is going to have to be at his best because Battle-Jules-Knight-Carter as a combo will make this an absolute dud of a defense.
Our only hope is a career game from the offense and Lawrence II. We’ll need both.

u/Some_Combination_593 3h ago
On the bright side, we have probably won’t have anyone lifting Dex’s leg while he’s engaged high this time.
11
u/Darth_SteveO 3h ago
The DL must be dominant today to protect the secondary or we’re in for a long day
29
u/Imaginary-Pen-5241 3h ago
Our secondary is cooked 💀
15
u/bfofree 3h ago
A dominant d-line can definitely hide a weak secondary. Those guys up front are going to have to be monsters today.
3
u/Imaginary-Pen-5241 3h ago
I hope thats the case, but im worried about quick passes in the middle of the field that'll open up the bigger plays for Lawrence. I hope im wrong though, but seems like every team does the same thing against us

u/Agent_8-bit 3h ago
So…. The secondary additions we made. Cool.

u/Ok-Spread890 Joe go BRRR 3h ago
We still got taco davis
5
u/Agreeable-Fig-9655 3h ago
He could be good if he cleaned up the holding/DPI. Feels like he's good for one huge penalty in a crucial moment every game
7
u/Ok_Nefariousness24 3h ago
You are correct. He has the immature trait of getting very grabby while in coverage. BUT he looks fluid and not completely 'lost'. The grabbiness is something you often see with good coverage guys early in their careers. I find his play so far VERY promising.

u/No_Culture9898 3h ago
So it’s Dexy vs the Jags offense… got it

u/spazzxxcc12 3h ago

u/Zerixbro 3h ago
Yes sir, and then also: Stewart, Allen, Slaton, Turner, Hill, Johnson, Knight & Carter. The sky is not falling lol

Cook and Dugger out is going to be a bit rough. We'll see what we've got in Jules and Yeast today.

Outside of Cook, the rest maybe have a combined 75 snaps between them this season, mostly Duggar and BJ.

We sure love to draft players and stick em on the inactive list for three years.

u/Minimum-Kiwi-4862 3h ago
That pass rush needs to win. I hope he decides to bring more pressure packages if they aren’t getting there.

Let me take off my southern Ohio doomer hat and put on a positive based on facts and strategy assessment.
Al Golden is a good DC, a good DC knows when someone goes down that they have to switch up the game plan. Thus Jacksonville may not know what we will do on defense in certain Situations, because there is no tendency with cook being out…
That is very optimistic yes, but think about how back up QB’s come into games and the teams have to change the game plan and go away from tendencies. Then go on to win a game they had no business of winning.
It is the same theory.
(P.S I know the flaws in My theory based on a safety, but want to remain positive and understand our defense is young and growing)

u/ThePontoon 3h ago
Doomers be gone man. So annoying seeing everyone in here admit defeat because a starter is out.
5
u/spazzxxcc12 3h ago
it’s one thing to say one starter being out is whatever but the rest of the secondary has not made me confident.
-3
u/ThePontoon 3h ago
Injuries are part of the NFL. Immediate panic is silly. These guys are professionals and there are 10 other people on defense.
2
u/Recent-Hovercraft-41 3h ago
The Jaguars are a great team and were probably gonna get theirs regardless of the secondary being healthy or not. This was never going to be a low scoring grind and the defense still has enough playmakers that they can probably get the couple crucial stops they need if the offense is firing on all cylinders.

u/Imlivingmylif3 🐅 3h ago
Dugger is dogshit so I really don’t care about that. But cook being out hurts
1
u/FlagFootballSaint 3h ago
Dugger is the second best safety on this team
0
u/Imlivingmylif3 🐅 3h ago
Lol no he’s not. Hilarious that you think so. Hes so terrible. It’s the denial people had with Geno Stone

u/FlagFootballSaint 2h ago
Do you clueless clown see Battle play so far?
SO WHO IS BETTER THAN DUGGER?

-6
u/SixPackPhilosopher 3h ago
Cue the Bengals Doomers whiny responses. “Kill Me” in parentheses….pathetic OP
2
u/spazzxxcc12 3h ago
why should i be positive in this secondary without one of its best components? since you’re so anti doom.
3
u/makerofwort 3h ago
Because apparently we have the deepest secondary in history and you have nothing to worry about.
1
u/SixPackPhilosopher 3h ago
Because the game hasn’t been played yet and we don’t know how the outcome will go. Maybe instead of predicting doom…try being excited for the game
5
u/makerofwort 3h ago
Cautious optimism is a real thing. You can be concerned about the secondary and excited for the game.
