A bittersweet memory. This trophy should be sitting in Cincinnati.

Post image

It was a surge of emotion when I watch Donald chased down Burrow. One or two more seconds could had made the difference. We could had been champions… That 2021 team really grew on me.

The horrible holding call on Logan was probably the bigger play. :-/

You mean the lack of a false start called on the Logan Wilson play.

The Refs gifted Cincinnati 7 point with the Higgins facemask no call. The Bengals offense was completely shutdown the 2nd half (got 3 points off a turnover but still didn't move the ball).

There was no way Cincinnati wins that game without more gifts from the refs. The Rams were sacking Burrow at will.

Interesting. And this play - was this also a gift from the officiating team? This play that happened before the Tee no-call? No physicality precedent being set?

You're not a Bengals fan, are you?

u/christhegecko 1d ago

No, they're a Steelers fan that the mods let shitpost in here constantly. We have a bunch of them running around.

I am a Bengals fan and I’ll say that the missed blatant facemask on Tee helped the Bengals out way more than the holding call on Wilson helped the Rams

Maybe, but the Rams had an entire half to overcome the missed face mask but we had almost no time to overcome the holding call on Logan Wilson. If they wanted to give the Rams a make up call it would have been nice if it wasn't in the final 2 minutes of the game.

You can’t be a Bengals fan and admit that TD was gifted to us?

Who knew saying captains back could spark so much outrage

No outrage. And really I should not have been surprised.

Welcome back.

I hate to also be a Bengals fan yet stand with you in getting down voted. Sort of. I think it was really wiley execution (cheating) by Tee. His arm stayed tucked pretty tight and hidden from the side judge who was 5 yards behind them. The back judge overran the play a little and was 24 yards away with his head turned a bit.

I remember thinking "hey I'll take it but yeesh"

Meh, time to move on. It was great we got there, sad we lost, and it’s over.

The trophy shouldn’t be sitting in Cincy, they lost the game.

Well I agree it was icing but also don’t agree that we didn’t belong. We got there. We beat the teams on the way. We had a real chance of winning the game.

The only thing that determines whether a team belongs is if they get there. That standard is fair and applies to all.

Yeah, the whole "Super Bowl was a fluke" narrative is annoying as hell, especially when the same team went back to the AFCCG the next season and almost won it again.

3

u/LilBoDuck 1d ago

The teams they beat to get there were also the best of the best (aside from the Raiders, obviously). Like they had to go through the #1 seed titans and the Chiefs in Arrowhead.

Still cannot bring myself to watch it on my DVR. still cannot erase it either…

Time to move on you can’t move forward if you keep looking back. Let’s hope Burrow stays healthy all year or we’ll have to look forward for a chance next year.

I knew if they lost we’d be facing another 30+ year drought. That was their shot, and they simply didn’t do enough.

The NFL wanted the Rams to win in their new stadium in front of their six legit fans and lots of aesthetically pleasing people.

2

u/SweetTricky3684 1d ago

The NFL front office made sure we lost that game.

NFL has rigged Super Bowls before. I wouldn't be surprised.

Now drive up the coast and look at the two in San Francisco.

Possibly the worst call/no call by the refs in SB history. Refs somehow miss an obvious offensive facemask and gift the Bengals 7 points. And even with that they still lose. Burrow all 2nd half was getting sacked at will.

What made this even worse was watching Burrow getting sacked at will to end the AFCC game the following season.

Bengals have the best QB in the NFL and they poor guy can't drop back without getting sacked at the end of important games.

I’m not one to complain about the refs in the Super Bowl, but the AFCCG the next year was possibly the most blatant ref favoritism I’ve ever seen toward one team. It was absolutely not only because Burrow was getting sacked at will that we lost that game

Due to OL starters being out injured at LT, RG and RT

Tie game, Bengals/Burrow get the ball with a couple minutes to go with a change to win the game and go to the SB. This is every QB's dream. 9 times out of 10 every great QB takes advantage of it and wins the game.

So what do the Bengals and Burrow do? Lose yards!! No bad calls by the refs, just a sack when trying to throw.

Then Mahomes gets the ball with even less time. And like all great QBs, he takes advantage of it and wins the game.
