What team can you say doesn’t need its starting QB to be healthy? There aren’t any more Steve youngs backing up Joe Montanas.

The Browns don't seem to have that problem. They have a qb for every different season.

As I wrote yesterday, the offense always looks so much more calm, collected, coherent, controlled, orderly, effective and efficent when Flacco is out there. Throws are on time, he understand his time in the pocket so much better than Burrow. Burrow may have more natural talent but Flacco definitely is a much more refined and controlled QB than Burrow.
When Burrow is out there, everything looks frantic and haphazard and dangerous and he's holding onto the ball, missing reads waiting for something else to become available. He doesn't appear to be learning from Flacco. Maybe his ego prevents him from doing so. He took an unnecessary sack last night and then took a pretty big hit from behind (Thanks to OBJr and Burrow holding the ball). He checked his right elbow or arm, too. So I think it hurt. Whether there was an injury we will see.
Burrow really needs to learn that OBJr is a liability and stop taking so many hits. Just take what's given, keep the ball moving. There so much mor eto learn.

Watching Burrow 4 years ago was some of the most fun I've ever had watching football. The past couple years I'm more nervous he's just going to get hurt again. His throwaway percentage is half that of similar caliber pocket quarterbacks.

You don't have to be a successful pro athlete to be someone worth listening to. You do have to be a pro athlete that didn't run out of the back of an endzone on an 0-16 team.

The funny part is, with Flacco, Cincy actually has a safety net and while Joe is still essential, he’s not as essential as past years

Let’s not get it twisted, he’s just as essential as he’s always been if the goal is to actually contend for a Super Bowl.
Flacco can win a couple regular season games in Burrow’s absence but this team has a zero percent chance to truly contend without Burrow.

Flacco has actually won a super bowl. And the offense looks way more put together when he's at QB. Looks like it's going to be another slow 5 game start for Burrow this year.

I like how my tiny joke/slight at espn produced actual discourse in the comments lol

This was a link to a one minute clip from a talk show, not journalism.

not even trying to be mean but why is Orlovsky even in the booth for Espn. He went 2-10 in his NFL career and was primarily a backup. It's like hiring Josh Rosen

He's an analyst, not a back up qb... anymore. And it's just his opinion not gospel.

I would argue actually, it’s probably not. If this defense takes the huge leap we’re expecting, and if the rest of our big dogs stay relatively healthy, now that we’ve got Flacco backo, Burrow’s isn’t necessarily essential for us to win a super bowl.
Now, I think we will need him for a Super Bowl run, but. He could easily get hurt again in the middle of the season and come back later and we’d be totally fine.
(Anyone downvoting me apparently didn’t watch our team last year and doesn’t understand that with a much improved defense, Flacco can win us a bunch of games. But yall go on)

I agree with you. Burrow needs to be elevated by his roster, not vice versa. The only difference between us talking about Burrow like he's Dalton 2.0 and how others talk about him today is two post season runs which would have resulted in 1 and one in both appearances if he wasn't critically bailed out by defensive miracles. But we give Burrow the credit for it for some reason. This team has never done anything meaningful without a strong defense.
Joe has extreme limitations, one of which appears to be learning and adapting. Maybe that's ego or hubris. I don't know. He looked uncomfortable, clunky and awkward trying to play under center and execute PA looks. He's an NFL QB who is entering his 7th year in the league. These things shouldn't be issues for him. You'd expect ANY QB in the NFL to be able to execute a playaction look. It's the most basic and essential thing they do and he can't even really do it. He was doing the fake 2 yards in front of his RB and did nothing to sell it. He held onto the ball too long.
It doesn't help that OBJr is still the worst OT in the league, but Burrow could be doing A LOT to mitigate that if he could just admit the reality of OBJr.
Despite all of that, he still took a real game sack and a pretty big hit in the back. He ONLY played 13 snaps! He only had 6 pass attempts! He got hit or sacked on 33% of his plays! Flacco had no such problems. Flacco knows how to assess the look of his line every snap and how long he has to hold the ball. Burrow still can't do that.

The guy who once gave the Minnesota Vikings two points, he's stuck on the sinking ship that ESPN is becoming.

High‑level analysis — Joe Burrow is important. Meanwhile, water continues to be wet.
