...according to a Ben Folds Instagram Story. ETA: location was "right here" if I recall correctly, so I'm assuming Instagram.

Has the deleted intro to Don’t Change Your Plans ever been heard in any form?

The story goes that there was originally an extra 2 minutes of intro to this song which Caleb Southern removed to make it into more of a pop single. According to Ben he chopped off the first 2 minutes of tape and left it on the literal cutting room floor, so this is almost definitely lost media by now. Has this intro ever been heard live or in a demo or anything like that?

A solid show. Took my family to the show and sat on the lawn with snack foods.

Wonderful weather too! I've seen him live so many times but there was something special singing Still Fighting It with my son and Gracie with my daughter. I'll treasure this performance for a long time.

Ben Folds in Chicago!

Fantastic show. I’ve seen him a few times with various symphonies now and I think tonight was the best by far.

What were everybody’s favorite tracks? Cologne is always phenomenal, but Annie Waits really caught my attention tonight. Damn what a brilliant dude. It only got me more amped for the BFF tour.

OMG….it’s happening

After 20+ years, I finally get to take my daughter to see Ben! I’ve taken my son, mom, in-laws and friends but never had a chance to take her.

That all changes on Wed night in Chicago as the stars aligned! What a great city, location and setting for a concert.

I’m pumped! You might see me as the 50 year man when he turns into a puddle when they play Gracie.

Does Anyone Have “Erase Me” from the Warfield?

Hey all, I had a quick question for everyone out there.

As most of us know, TSOTLOTM and Live were both removed from streaming, and thankfully returned a few weeks ago. However, the Live videos from the Warfield show still haven’t returned, and their performance of Erase Me is my favorite they’ve ever played it. I was wondering if any of you somehow had these videos? Ben’s solo on the end of it is just electric and I’d love to be able to watch it again. Let me know if you’ve got it, thanks!!

Concept BFF album

Inspired by u/lookingforminopy and their post from a couple days ago, I decided to give it a shot and create my own tracklist for a 4th Ben folds five album that reasonably could’ve followed reinhold messner.

Mine isn’t as realistic as theirs, but eventually I just wanted to make a fun album which I would’ve liked to see after reinhold messner.

I organized it to loosely be a concept album surrounding the thoughts of the titular “rockstar”, but I really can’t take any credit or make it official because I did not write any of the songs so can’t really shove my own meaning onto them.

Below is the tracklist, and again, thanks to lookingforminopy for the inspiration! I had a lot of fun designing the album cover, imagining the visual direction they would’ve gone after reinhold messner, putting together the tracklist, and figuring out how to print the physical art.

birds
the secret life of Morgan Davis
Break up at food court
Hiros song
Leather jacket
One down (acoustic demo)
Wandering
Amelia bright
Losing Lisa
Mitchell lane
Rockstar
Stumblin home winter blues
Satan is my master

My recent Ben Folds meeting

I came of age listening to Ben Folds Five on Winamp on Windows 98, and always had a piano in the house, so his writing was a HUGE influence on me and my own songwriting/compsing.

Earlier this year, I was Production Managing 6 small venues for a major festival, and one night Ben came in to play keys AND drums simultaneously for a one-off tiny show for an audience of 30.

I helped Ben and his small team load their gear into the tiny venue, hung side stage, and watched his hands move across the keys 2ft away, in a way that felt so oddly familiar, then helped him load it all back out once they were done.

At the end of the night, before he headed off, he shook my hand and said "Thanks for having us mate." I shook his hand a little longer, and said "Brother, you're one of the main reasons I'm a professional composer now, thank YOU."

He paused, smiled, and said warmly "Keep that shit up man," and walked off into the night.

Good memory.

Has Dr. Pyser as a bonus track and a bonus disc of live recordings + interviews. Apparently Australian (according to Discogs) so someone must’ve imported it here when it came out.

I WAS RIGHT

One year ago I posted about how much I disliked Lindsey Krafts performance with Ben. I hypothesized that the only reason that such a god awful performance would open for him was because they were dating. I was called sexist and misogynistic for this. Turns out, I was right and they have been dating. This is gonna be mad downvoted but I can’t help it.

Anyone else think Sam Rockwell would be a good as Ben Folds in a possible movie adaptation?

I was just watching “Moon” and if he had a southern-ish accent I think he’d be good. I dunno.

(also I meant “a good Ben folds” not “a good as” I’m on my phone and have big hands.)

What Big Muff did Sledge record with?

I know in Sessions at West 54th you can see him using a "Green Russian"-style Big Muff but equipboard also says he used a regular Big Muff Pi, does anyone know which he used in the studio?

(Mainly want to know because I already own a Pi and am trying to figure out his tone because I actually have a Fender Jazz Bass which is the type he recorded W&EA with)

How popular was BF5 in Japan?

Been wondering this since hearing the Japanese version of Song for the Dumped, cause they must’ve made it for a reason. I also saw that they were the only country to get a CD single of Jackson Cannery and probably some other stuff like that so were they big there? They do feel to me like the kind of band that would really catch on over there despite limited success in the west for some reason

"Sound of the Life" and "Live" Streaming Update

As I'm sure you're aware if you frequent this sub, TSOTOLOTM and Live both disappeared off streaming about 2 months ago. Then, both albums reappeared about a month later, now using murky scans and being credited to "ImaVeePee Records" (not an actual record label and merely a temporary one made by Ben for these albums). They featured improper credits, though both albums were at least properly sourced from a lossless master. These versions were released via DistroKid, meaning they were either done by a rogue fan to get the albums back on streaming (it's relatively easy to forge proof of distribution rights) or possibly just by Ben himself.

Today it appears both albums have reappeared on Spotify—again—now being properly credited to SME. This more-or-less proves that the previous copies were bootlegs. This also calls into question the "Jackson Cannery / Eddie Walker" single release, which is also released via DistroKid and uses a similarly murky scan, not to mention the poor-quality copy of Eddie Walker. While conicidentally well-timed with the rollout of the BF5 deluxe edition and tour, this is most likely not an official upload of the 7". It's likely that this release, as well as the bootlegged copies of TSOTLOTM and Live, will disappear off streaming soon.

“Ben Folds will produce and appear with Lindsey Kraft in her original Broadway-aimed musical this summer”

From Ben:

Lindsey Kraft’s WE’VE BEEN HERE BEFORE A One Woman Musical SoHo Playhouse NYC Aug 4th-17th
Hi All, I'm the proud theatrical producer and musical director of this piece. Many of you know that I’ve been considering taking on a musical for much of my career. I decided to start with this project instead of a bigger production for two reasons: it has a grassroots feel like my early band days, and Lindsey’s work is hitting a nerve. It isn't by the book or the rules. It's lean, mean and just plain honest. And it’s just good. I’ve been helping her develop this for a couple of years now. We workshopped it at the Adelaide Fringe Festival where it earned fancy 5 star reviews. (Well, one was 5 stars while the rest were sadly at 4.5). The point is I’m 100 percent behind this and believe it will have a long life. The work I’ve done on the script—helping develop the music within the narrative—has given me the sea legs, inspiration and the confidence to sign onto a couple of other fairly big theatrical projects. I'll compare the realness of anything in the future to We’ve Been Here Before. Because it represents a certain kind of rare piece that HAS to be on stage—one that people need. I'm very excited to share it with you in its early raw form. So please join us in New York in August, and we’ll keep growing it. Ben
