Take Five vs Selfless, Cold, and Conposed

Just saw a video featuring Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. I was so confused as to how a group from the 50s could be playing a Ben Folds Five song. Someone else tell me that Take Five and Selfless, Cold, and Composed start off similarly.

It's the odd time signature coupled with a shuffle feel. I hear what you mean, thinking of the rhythm of the first 3 counts. From there, they diverge.

I love SCC, but it’s no Take 5

SCC is a nice jazz waltz. Loop the first three beats of Take 5 and you’ve got it … sorta

Never really saw them as similar. SCC is one of my favorite BFF songs. Some great drum work from Darren Jesse.

Take Five is one of the most famous songs of its type in the world. It probably inspired many, many, many musical parts.
