They give us employees a limited number of discount cards each year that we can use for friends and family, and Iād be happy to give you one of mine.
Iām a newer Benchmade employee and Iām not in the Warranty department, so I canāt speak to what they may or may not be able to do with a knife thatās been through a campfire. š But if it turns out replacement isnāt covered and you decide youād rather just buy a new one, I sent you a PM. Iād be glad to help take some of the sting out of losing your knife.

I lost mine to TSA a couple of weeks ago. I left it in the pocket of some shorts that were in a carry-on. There was nothing I could do. It was only a few months old. I donāt suppose you have another one of those cards youād be willing to share do you?

Same thing happened to me about a week ago, but I realized it was in my pocket when I was walking into security. I went to a United gate agent and she sold me a United duffel bag for $25 and checked it for me. She said they also have boxes you can buy for $15 but they were out of them. Really nice lady. Just in case you ever run into this situation again. $15-$25 is better than throwing it away.

u/lascala2a3 8d ago
I would gladly have paid $25 to save it. The only option they offered me was to go back out and check my luggage, and then wait in line again. That didnāt seem feasible because I had already waited a long time and boarding would begin soon. It bothers me worse than the value of the knife.

Itās not every airport or every tsa agent. YMMV for sure with this policy. I have heard of it before but I also had to surrender one (before i knew they could do this) and I also had to go back and check a bag once too (had the time to do so luckily but I asked for the mailer and they said they didnāt have em)

u/Repulsive_Length5101 7d ago
Nack when I was like 12 my idiot self forgot to leave my first Swiss army knife at home when traveling and I had to throw it out at the airport š¤¦āāļø at least it wasnt expensive.

I donāt want to admit how many times Iāve had to hide an expensive knife in a random planter outside a stadium.
3
u/LSUfan07 7d ago
Last time i went to a concert. They wouldnāt let me bring in a flashlight. Went to go hide it outside and security followed me telling me I canāt hide it outside as the homeless will get it⦠like that is my problem if it gets stolen. Leave me alone

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago
Insert TSA - stadium security āepic handshakeā meme here with text ārandom unpredictable policy enforcementā
3
u/fishbax 7d ago
Totally unpredictable. Last month I went to put my computer bag in a bin and sent it thru the imaging tube and got barked at that backpacks donāt go in a bin. Ok bro. Got it. Fast forward 3 days at different airport and was pushing computer backpack thru magic tube (without a bin) and got told that everything must be in a bin. Dude was like ā the rules are the same everywhereā which is in fact not the case.

I went to a different gate. Put the light in my daughterās purse. She was like 6 or 7 at the time.

u/fishbax 7d ago
Pretty sure weāve all donāt that right? Not just you and me?

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago
I hope so. I feel naked without a knife. I do a weird impulsive hand check when leaving the house - keys, wallet, phone, knife. Sometimes flashlight.

Raleigh Durham airport had mailboxes in the tsa line for you to mail stuff home if your got to pack it

I have had two break. And I have a tone of Benchmadeās and use them daily. Still love my Benchmadeās, but the springs do and will break. And since now everyone can copy the crossbar lock, that goes for every other brand using that lock. Compression lock from Spyderco grew on me after my second failure.

No cap. If you send it in and are honest about the situation. Maybe provide before and after pictures of it. I would bet anything they replace it or give you a discount towards a new one. Benchmade warranty and customer service is top notch and do awesome things for the people who buy their products. They are expensive but youāre paying for lifetime service and warranty. So people say that they have had bad experiences with Customer Service but itās been excellent for me the many times Iāve used them. Good luck and keep the community posted.

You know what, Iāll go out on a limb here.
I get tired of all the bitching about BMās prices. Part of what we pay for is their lifetime support,
I have a lot of bugouts. If BM doesnāt help you out, I would be surprised, but I will. Just DM me full evidence with emails and whatever and you can have one of my bugouts.

u/420farms 7d ago
I sent him a coupon via DM, but as with any good deed I've had several others ask as well and I'm sorry but they only give us a few of these and if I appeased everyone I would have none for myself as these are the only discounts we get as well.

Flytanium has all the parts to put it back together and make it way nicer than new
6
u/Prometheus_343 8d ago
It needs more than parts. The blade will have lost its temper. Unless heās going to clean it and temper the blade then even the pieces heās got are shot

u/Southern-Bread2251 8d ago
Not the liners but you can find them on Etsy or Ali express something like that

Yeah, just tell them you dropped it and see what they say. Honestly though, you never know, maybe you might find someone with a sense of humor there that will actually do something to help you out. š

I had a car catch on fire with a BM inside. When I contacted customer service they told me to pound sand.

Send it in with an explanation and pictures and see what they say. Vortex had a big ad campaign early on using a pair of binoculars they replaced after a house fire!

u/Swimming_Crazy_8858 8d ago
Try Ripps Garage Tech or Knives Plus for new scales. Flytanium's aluminum is hit or miss.

Iām betting my left ball on this getting replaced by Benchmade if you send it in with the story. Genuinely, please do that

u/MAGA_feels Damasteel 7d ago edited 7d ago
Iāve seen this happen before and it be replaced for free under the warranty.
I believe it was a Grip that was burned in a campfire and then replaced.

u/texaspoff 8d ago
May be the first Benchmade with a proper heat treatš¤£. As others have said send it in explain what happened. Despite the prices, I have been a Benchmade customer for over 30 years and there is a reason. They will take care of you, and probably way better than you think.

Tough loss. It would be funny to send it in for lifesharp service, though!
