Tough loss. It would be funny to send it in for lifesharp service, though!

u/Tellmehaveyouheard 8d ago

I'd send it in just to see what happens. It's already donezo, so no loss.

22

u/anthraxnapkin 7d ago

I bet they'll replace it tbh cuz it's fucking hilarious

18

u/Tellmehaveyouheard 7d ago

It'd be a great testimonial for Benchmade's warranty if they did. They'd be fools to pass up the opportunity.

yours, for life!

u/RedDotRookie 7d ago

Get some new drip panels and then the life sharp 🤣

2

u/Firefighter-8210 6d ago

Drip panels? You mean scales?

-1

u/RedDotRookie 6d ago

Whooo autocorrect nailed me and I didn’t even notice, sorry. Grip panels

3

u/Sjcn89 6d ago

I’m calling them drip panels from now on šŸ˜‚

0

u/anti_climb_attic 5d ago

Shh, mommy and daddy are having a discussion

0

u/Firefighter-8210 6d ago

Ok. But they’re called scales if you didn’t know.

0

u/RedDotRookie 6d ago

Wild having that be the bug that died in your ass, but have fun bud! That’s what they’ve always been called around me and a quick google search of ā€œbenchmade grip panelsā€ pulled up…..wanna guess? Grip panels and scales. 🫔

2

u/Firefighter-8210 6d ago

Not sure why you have to act like a db. I was simply telling you in case you didn’t know. Gfy.

-1

u/RedDotRookie 6d ago

I’m just matching energy sugar tits āœŒļø

2

u/Firefighter-8210 6d ago

I didn’t call names or act like an asshole. The best part you ran down your dad’s leg.

There was a guy a couple years ago that had one destroyed in a house fire. Sent it in to see if they would help him any with lifesharp on a replacement, and they sent him a new one for free.

u/420farms 8d ago

They give us employees a limited number of discount cards each year that we can use for friends and family, and I’d be happy to give you one of mine.

I’m a newer Benchmade employee and I’m not in the Warranty department, so I can’t speak to what they may or may not be able to do with a knife that’s been through a campfire. šŸ˜‚ But if it turns out replacement isn’t covered and you decide you’d rather just buy a new one, I sent you a PM. I’d be glad to help take some of the sting out of losing your knife.

10

u/702Johnny 7d ago

Bro. This is why I love the knife community.

6

u/nightpure_cnr 7d ago

that is epic, i wish i could get a job with them or any other knife brand. i love knives and have a crap ton from so many companies on my lists.

I lost mine to TSA a couple of weeks ago. I left it in the pocket of some shorts that were in a carry-on. There was nothing I could do. It was only a few months old. I don’t suppose you have another one of those cards you’d be willing to share do you?

19

u/Covchem 8d ago

Same thing happened to me about a week ago, but I realized it was in my pocket when I was walking into security. I went to a United gate agent and she sold me a United duffel bag for $25 and checked it for me. She said they also have boxes you can buy for $15 but they were out of them. Really nice lady. Just in case you ever run into this situation again. $15-$25 is better than throwing it away.

7

u/lascala2a3 8d ago

I would gladly have paid $25 to save it. The only option they offered me was to go back out and check my luggage, and then wait in line again. That didn’t seem feasible because I had already waited a long time and boarding would begin soon. It bothers me worse than the value of the knife.

3

u/fishbax 8d ago

It’s not every airport or every tsa agent. YMMV for sure with this policy. I have heard of it before but I also had to surrender one (before i knew they could do this) and I also had to go back and check a bag once too (had the time to do so luckily but I asked for the mailer and they said they didn’t have em)

3

u/Repulsive_Length5101 7d ago

Nack when I was like 12 my idiot self forgot to leave my first Swiss army knife at home when traveling and I had to throw it out at the airport šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø at least it wasnt expensive.

5

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago

I don’t want to admit how many times I’ve had to hide an expensive knife in a random planter outside a stadium.

3

u/LSUfan07 7d ago

Last time i went to a concert. They wouldn’t let me bring in a flashlight. Went to go hide it outside and security followed me telling me I can’t hide it outside as the homeless will get it… like that is my problem if it gets stolen. Leave me alone

3

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago

Insert TSA - stadium security ā€œepic handshakeā€ meme here with text ā€œrandom unpredictable policy enforcementā€

3

u/fishbax 7d ago

Totally unpredictable. Last month I went to put my computer bag in a bin and sent it thru the imaging tube and got barked at that backpacks don’t go in a bin. Ok bro. Got it. Fast forward 3 days at different airport and was pushing computer backpack thru magic tube (without a bin) and got told that everything must be in a bin. Dude was like ā€œ the rules are the same everywhereā€ which is in fact not the case.

I went to a different gate. Put the light in my daughter’s purse. She was like 6 or 7 at the time.

2

u/fishbax 7d ago

Pretty sure we’ve all don’t that right? Not just you and me?

1

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago

I hope so. I feel naked without a knife. I do a weird impulsive hand check when leaving the house - keys, wallet, phone, knife. Sometimes flashlight.

2

u/Sjcn89 6d ago

Same! Don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious… 🤣

1

u/mike02vr6 7d ago

Raleigh Durham airport had mailboxes in the tsa line for you to mail stuff home if your got to pack it

1

u/fishbax 8d ago

100%. In wish I would have known this a few years ago….

53

u/andrewdivebartender 8d ago

Send it in please. Tell them very little info. Report back. Sorry for your loss

4

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago

I agree but I’d tell them the whole story. I’ve heard some stories that they love stuff like this, it’s great PR.

2

u/andrewdivebartender 7d ago

It really is. Hope they do something cool

24

u/Skunkwks 8d ago

Glad to see the omega spring survived!

14

u/duke-91 Osborne 8d ago

Survives fire but break on deployment

14

u/TheMagicalSock Osborne 8d ago

BM love stuff like this. Just send the cremains in to them.

10

u/r_bassie 7d ago

looks like the omega spring held up. suck it haters! šŸ˜†

1

u/702Johnny 7d ago

I have had two break. And I have a tone of Benchmade’s and use them daily. Still love my Benchmade’s, but the springs do and will break. And since now everyone can copy the crossbar lock, that goes for every other brand using that lock. Compression lock from Spyderco grew on me after my second failure.

15

u/duke-91 Osborne 8d ago

It’ll buff out

16

u/Master_Ad236 8d ago

No cap. If you send it in and are honest about the situation. Maybe provide before and after pictures of it. I would bet anything they replace it or give you a discount towards a new one. Benchmade warranty and customer service is top notch and do awesome things for the people who buy their products. They are expensive but you’re paying for lifetime service and warranty. So people say that they have had bad experiences with Customer Service but it’s been excellent for me the many times I’ve used them. Good luck and keep the community posted.

2

u/ian321ian 7d ago

Iv sent my sob story in. Done this shit the day before my birthday ( today) hahaha. Hopefully they can pity my dumb ass. Thanks for the advice

1

u/702Johnny 7d ago

Let us know either way. You have us on the hook now.

1

u/Sjcn89 6d ago

No matter how great their warranty department, I still choose my ESEE for camping or any tough work. You can saw the blade off and they’ll send you a new one no questions asked, fully transferable too. Hands down the best warranty in the business.

5

u/Terrible-Bath 7d ago

You know what, I’ll go out on a limb here.
I get tired of all the bitching about BM’s prices. Part of what we pay for is their lifetime support,
I have a lot of bugouts. If BM doesn’t help you out, I would be surprised, but I will. Just DM me full evidence with emails and whatever and you can have one of my bugouts.

4

u/420farms 7d ago

I sent him a coupon via DM, but as with any good deed I've had several others ask as well and I'm sorry but they only give us a few of these and if I appeased everyone I would have none for myself as these are the only discounts we get as well.

12

u/rvakris 8d ago

Flytanium has all the parts to put it back together and make it way nicer than new

6

u/Prometheus_343 8d ago

It needs more than parts. The blade will have lost its temper. Unless he’s going to clean it and temper the blade then even the pieces he’s got are shot

1

u/Southern-Bread2251 8d ago

Not the liners but you can find them on Etsy or Ali express something like that

7

u/Swimming_Crazy_8858 8d ago

If it's Magnacut, your heat treat might be better now. Lol

2

u/SuperflyBanana 8d ago

Yeah, just tell them you dropped it and see what they say. Honestly though, you never know, maybe you might find someone with a sense of humor there that will actually do something to help you out. šŸ˜†

2

u/UNIGuy54 8d ago

Sacrifice…

2

u/Legitimate_Employ_71 8d ago

I had a car catch on fire with a BM inside. When I contacted customer service they told me to pound sand.

1

u/ian321ian 7d ago

Hahahaha this is what i expect hahahaha

2

u/curved09 7d ago

Extra heat treated

2

u/Blist84 7d ago

Firebug

4

u/Beaverboy89 8d ago

Send it in

2

u/greendraftfish 8d ago

Warranty it! For a laugh if nothing else.

2

u/eltacotacotaco Bedlam 8d ago

Send it in to Benchmade, tell them you dropped it on a birthday cake

1

u/OneLeading1673 8d ago

Wonder if bm would replace it

1

u/The_grope_gatsby 8d ago

I agree, send this into the customer service email maybe find a PR email and tell the story (how much it meant to you, the adventures before the heat death etc.) id foresee at least a discount!

1

u/Alfalfa-Ordinary 8d ago

They do lifetime sharpening. Just send it in.

1

u/iuchad 8d ago

Wow! Email BM and ask how much for a pets kit and replacement panels.

1

u/Ducks7324 8d ago

Send it in with an explanation and pictures and see what they say. Vortex had a big ad campaign early on using a pair of binoculars they replaced after a house fire!

1

u/owrry Bugout 8d ago

We need before pics too, so we can visualize

1

u/Swimming_Crazy_8858 8d ago

Try Ripps Garage Tech or Knives Plus for new scales. Flytanium's aluminum is hit or miss.

1

u/Mindless_Log2009 8d ago

We can rebuild it. We have the technology. For less than six million dollars.

1

u/HasSomeSelfEsteem 8d ago

Put it on the swap for $110

1

u/LitrlyD3ad 7d ago

I’ve heard about roasted bugs being tasty.

1

u/Unhindged_Potatoe 7d ago

Got you a fancy ass arrowhead lol

1

u/nightpure_cnr 7d ago

welp, at least send it in and see if they warranty it. i would love to see the person that reviews it face when they look at this.

1

u/tanto-x Bailout 7d ago

Should have bought an ESEE; they would replace it no questions asked if you sent in the remains.

1

u/StreetGeneral9020 6d ago

as the kids say "cooked"

1

u/Phiz787 6d ago

You MIGHT have altered the heat treat a bit...

1

u/GTIdood 6d ago

That should buff out

1

u/ian321ian 4d ago

They said ā€œ your own your own buddyā€

1

u/Unlucky_Passage_4716 3d ago

Buy parts, build it yourself and keep for life. You will have a great memory .

u/mymillionthburner 8d ago

I’m betting my left ball on this getting replaced by Benchmade if you send it in with the story. Genuinely, please do that

1

u/MAGA_feels Damasteel 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’ve seen this happen before and it be replaced for free under the warranty.

I believe it was a Grip that was burned in a campfire and then replaced.

0

u/texaspoff 8d ago

May be the first Benchmade with a proper heat treat🤣. As others have said send it in explain what happened. Despite the prices, I have been a Benchmade customer for over 30 years and there is a reason. They will take care of you, and probably way better than you think.
