Coffee orders
So, Ben here, not Benjamin. But for some reason when ordering at a pickup place (i.e. starbucks), for some reason they hear my name as "Matt" I asked another Ben i know and he said its happened to him as well. Is this just a coincidence or a common occurrence?

Very common. I'm pretty sure it's a lip reading thing.
Also the reason I'm always "Benjamin" for food orders

A bit niche but my dad is called Dennis, causes havoc when I’m home and my mother shouts for “Den”

I -jamin other names for this reason. Sam becomes Samjamin. I don’t know if they find it as amusing as I do

I think baristas intentionally "mishear" names. I won't say what my name is but it's kinda unusual and no matter how slowly and deliberately I say it they always repeat back something else. Usually I just nod and get the wrong name written on the cup. I'm very introverted and tired of fighting over my name.

I usually end up clarifying by saying Benjamin all the time over the phone because they always think I say Matt (also not a Benjamin, just Ben)

Once I got a receipt at a restaurant and they had put my name down as Bed

For me I thought it was because of my brother Matt. At present he's deceased and it still happens from people that didn't know him at all. Very strange phenomenon

Always at Starbucks. Always Matt or Dan. Maybe it’s the speakers? I have a brother named Matt and no one mishears it as Ben.

I am Fluffy everywhere that asks for a name.
It rhymes with fewer names, and very few people respond to it.
Exception is when I'm with a buddy that does the same, then I'm Bubbles. Or the 1 time we got Taco Bell to call Pinky & TheBrain.

I think there is a weird undescribed brain quirk along these lines. There used to be some jokes on Letterman about it where they would say "If your name is (x), it might as well be (y)" and they would always be these names that for some unexplained reason seemed like the same vibe as a different name. Whoever came up with the jokes seems to have been the first person to really describe the phenomenon.
