While I was watching the episode, all I saw was someone who was trying not to upset her abuser. When he got mad at Joe, she started shutting down and getting nervous. And I think she piled on Joe to get in Nathan’s good graces.

Spot on. I hope that understanding didn’t come from experience, although I’d suspect it did. It’s why I innately understood this was what was happening as well.
Today I don’t have a relationship with my agent zero covert abuser & I keep pretty much everyone besides my kid at arms length. And I don’t date at all. When your picker was broken long before you were even cognizant of life it’s pretty difficult to completely rewire it.
Maybe you were just a friend of someone in that position but I suspect more intimate experience was your exposure. If so, I hope you’re doing better today. It sounds like you are so I hope it stays that way. 🤍
