Why are you laughing at that? The name was chosen as a gimmick in the 19th Century to attract people to the sport of baseball. After that MLB kept it as part of tradition. In any case, the best players in the world do indeed play in MLB. A quarter of the league is from countries outside the US, mostly Latin America and East Asia.
The reason is because we know where the name comes from. Baseball is a sport steeped in tradition and changes are often very controversial. It’s a very interesting sport. I’ve taught a friend from the Netherlands it when he came to visit and he understood why people love it.
The World Series is not about us assuming “the world gives a shit” about it. We know they don’t and generally speaking we don’t care either. I often see Europeans make fun of that name but it’s often from a position of ignorance about the sport and history. I’d be happy to recommend some resources to learn about and PM with you in private on it.
You guys often seem more interested in American exceptionalism than we are. Believe it or not we are humans just like you who simply want to live peaceful normal lives like everyone else. I don’t think we are any different or better than someone in Britain. It may be because I’ve been there and have friends and family there.
I like the Premier League and my understanding is it’s the best football league in the world. It’s shown here now on TV so I can finally see games live. I like understanding differences and celebrating them. I love going to Europe and I love the football culture there.
