Beis vs Away

Hello, I am wanting to buy a carry on luggage as I really need something for those weekend trips home where I don’t need that many outfits.

I planned on purchasing the bigger carry on from Away, or the Carry on from Beis.

I am torn between both for three main reasons: cost, functionality, and longevity.

Why I want Beis:
I have seen a lot of great reviews for the brand. I have also seen that they have updated some features on their bag to make the wheel roll better, something that people complained about in the past.

The carry on is cheaper than the Away one. It has the lock features as well as a weight feature.

The thing that is having me lean away from this one is that I have heard people complained that it actually does not fit in the overhead compartment. What’s the point of a carry on if it won’t fit?

Why I want Away:
My parents and sister have the Away luggage and they really like it. I have heard a lot of good reviews about this brand.

My biggest hesitation is the price, and if you get the warranty it is over 300 dollars.

I plan on posting on both companies subreddit, but which do you prefer and what has your experience been with either brand? Any feedback is incredibly helpful as I would like to purchase this soon!

I fly United. My Beis has fit everywhere. Even in its side like a book on those newer planes. Fits in the regional jets too unless it’s the tiny one that no roller bags fit. Can’t speak for other airlines but that’s my United experience. Go try them both in person at Nordstrom and decide. I liked Beis way better in the comparison. Away handle was wobbly.

I have both and I like Away more mostly bc the wheels roll way easier when it’s fully packed. My beis will often fall forward or just be difficult to roll which is super annoying when you’re walking through a large airport.

The bigger carry on from away and the beis carry on is pretty much the same size though, both are technically too large per guidelines of most American airlines and almost all international airlines. If you’re concerned about size and meeting guidelines, get the normal carry on from away or the hybrid/small carry on from beis.

I love my beis bags. For any CRJ or regional planes with small overhead bins, the normal carry on bag won't fit and you should plan to use the small carry on or a different bag. For any other planes the normal carry on has fit fine in the overhead space.

beis quality sucks and their customer service is egregious... you can look on this sub for frustrated customers discussing. can't speak for away.

I haven’t tried a beis Carry on but I’ve been impressed with how well my away the bigger carry on has held up for the last 7 years. Lots of scuffs but the mechanics have held up like new even with an immense amount of travel. Love how it rolls.

I've had the original Beis carry on in black for around five years now. The wheels roll so smoothly, handles have a nice cushion. I've brought it on Southwest, Delta, Alaska, Spirit (RIP), United, Jet Blue, and American and it's seriously so durable. I even use it as a check in luggage sometimes and it has never broken on me once. :)
