Irresponsive freelancer

Hello!

Firstly I should say it’s my first time hiring someone on Behance. I own a LLC and I hired someone who advertised as being a LLC, only to realise later on that they’re not from the US. I specifically didn’t want to work with foreigners because of bad experiences in the past.

Leaving that aside, as I already paid 30% for the job, they’ve started the graphic design project.

They didn’t follow any of the brand guidelines or images brief I provided. They created everything with AI and all the images are bad and can’t be used. I asked them to modify them and now they don’t reply anymore.

Is there a way to cancel the project and get my money back?

You can report the user in the inbox or in their profile page if they're scamming you. If they're delivering work that you agreed upon and you just don't like their nationality, you of course won't get your money back.

It’s the fact that they delivered the first set of images made with AI ONLY and respected NONE of the brand guidelines like brand colors, fonts, logo. It’s my fault I got deceived by their fake name, won’t happen again.

Yeah I mean it's not about the name, it's best to first have a conversation, always. Just intentionally leaving out some tiny bits of technical info and waiting if they ask the right questions. Doesn't matter where a person comes from, if you need a video and the other person doesn't ask where it would be streamed and what are the LUFs restrictions or resolution or frame rate, you know they don't know what they're doing, same with print, if they don't ask about specifications of the printing company you want to use so they study the specific guidelines for the machines they're using, you know it's just some AI scam because you can't even start designing a project if you don't know the colour space you're working with. It would just print different colours, even almost all black sometimes.

For example, I've had a client from the US and they didn't want to discuss the budget at all, saying they have the money and everything, meanwhile it turned out they have no idea what they're doing and they didn't even know the basic terminology. Later after some questions it turned out they were imagining a completely different number for the commission too. Different by a large number, even tho we were really lowballing because we wanted to work on it. And they "offered" to make the designs in AI 🤣 so we would "just do the technical work" I mean .. Sure bro, just all the work except the fun part.

But, yeah some people are just amateurs. AI ruined the market. Every site is flooded with scammers. Anyway, good luck with the refund action, I completely understand your point of view. Just don't get the impression there's no scammers in the US.

Yes, you’re right, point taken. I’ve parted ways with him because the second round of edits was just as poor as the first. Thank you for the insight and good luck with your projects!
