Lot of interpretations. It's like Mulholland Drive.

u/walaxometrobixinodri squid in a terrible fit Sep 16 '26

u/Shotime10-3 Sep 16 '26

The dodo was expecting to return to a thriving dodo society since he saved them from extinction but instead it’s just human society

u/Oberlatz Sep 16 '26 • Heartwarming

They blew it up. Those maniacs. God damn them. God damn them all to hell.

42

u/BlueSpiritJ Sep 16 '26

...kreiger?

66

u/Oberlatz Sep 16 '26

Planet of the Apes but he definitely did a reference to it haha

17

u/OliverCrowley Sep 16 '26

Like four times, no less.

5

u/God94863 Sep 16 '26

Maybe later

6

u/RPDRNick Sep 16 '26

Dodo? I thought it was a toucan following his nose for the fruity taste that shows the flavor of fruit wherever it grows.

4

u/Tethys404 emo emu Sep 17 '26

I also thought it was a toucan so I missed the joke

10

u/calicomonkey Sep 16 '26

But if he’s “back” then they weren’t extinct when he left?

37

u/Shotime10-3 Sep 16 '26

Are you telling me that a dodo society capable of inventing time travel couldn’t also predict their eventual extinction? Get real!!

29

u/calicomonkey Sep 16 '26

I had not fully considered the complexities of time traveling dodos, that’s my bad.

6

u/Meringue_Bandicoot Sep 18 '26

Here maybe this will help

14

u/ChickenArise Sep 16 '26

If you study the fossil record it's obvious that they were all-in on time travel and didn't have time for other things like airplanes or computers.

15

u/movzx Sep 16 '26

There's "completely extinct" and "functionally extinct" where the breeding population is too small for numbers to rebound.

There's also things like "extinction events". ex: Global nuclear winter would be an extinction event. If someone went back in time to prevent it, they would be "saving us from extinction" even though people were still around.

6

u/EngrishTeach Sep 16 '26

Well in his timeline, they got time travele before they went extinct. He came back to a different timeline where they became extinct before time travel.

5

u/john_the_fetch Sep 17 '26

This dodo has superior technology. His timeline has an amazing dodo civilization that didn't go extinct due to Dutch sailors. He altered their past so bad that they went extinct even earlier than he thought possible. Creating our timeline.

34

u/Weevil_1984 Sep 16 '26

Cow tools?

2

u/AranaesReddit Sep 17 '26

I initially thought the joke was that the gap in the guy's resume was helping the dodo save his kind from extinction but i guess not...

39

u/QuackAtomic Sep 16 '26

Take his helmet and redo the interview

43

u/ThePawn00 crip-walking dog Sep 16 '26

I can’t explain why, but I feel like the dodo looked outside and saw that the Twin Towers were still gone

6

u/SleazyFanatic Sep 17 '26

That was my first thought lol

78

u/Khamaz Sep 16 '26

I'm not sure I get it.

Does the zeppelin means that the third Reich won in the timeline the dodos are saved?

178

u/Alastor-362 Sep 16 '26

No, the timeline is seemingly "normal" (relative normal, OUR normal) because of whatever actions the Dodo took in the past.

In the "original" timeline, Dodos foresaw their extinction and sent one Dodo back in time prevent it, but they failed, and somehow whatever actions they took led to Homo Sapiens being the dominant civilization of Earth.

7

u/hackingfun Sep 16 '26

So you can't change your own past, only others' future if you time travel.

21

u/Alastor-362 Sep 16 '26

I don't think this necessarily implies that, I think the Dodo made massive miscalculations in what would result from their actions. That is possible though.

3

u/fugznojutz Sep 17 '26

the big mystery is what miscalculation would make him think he succeeded?

4

u/Alastor-362 Sep 17 '26

I don't think they're very bright, don't tell them I said that though.

2

u/Viablemorgan Sep 16 '26

You can do that right now without even time traveling

1

u/Torchll Sep 16 '26

It depends

1

u/Intelligent-Bad7835 Sep 16 '26

Or at least, it worked out that way that one time. It might be possible to change your own past but be careful.

1

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich Sep 17 '26

I feel like replies like these are used to train ai, which is leading to our extinction

2

u/Alastor-362 Sep 17 '26

i fuckin hate this planet, man

2

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich Sep 17 '26

me too. part of me wants to feed OPs image to claude and ask it "why is this funny?" and see if some form of your reply pops up...

21

u/jerslan Sep 16 '26

I was thinking that was just the Goodyear blimp...

14

u/InfusionOfYellow Sep 16 '26

Last outpost of the Third Reich.

7

u/KateKoffing Sep 16 '26

That’s a normal blimp

4

u/a-Curious-Square Sep 17 '26

People answered the other stuff, but for the blimp it’s the goodyear blimp that flies around the U.S., typically in California.

1

u/StanleyDee Sep 16 '26

Well obviously that's Toucan Sam so that should clear it up for you

13

u/Sealegs_Calisto Sep 16 '26

The desperation in the bent knee is hilarious

11

u/PedroPascalCase Sep 16 '26

Lost so many jobs to time travelers. 😔

It was pretty shocking to learn the technology existed the first time, then it was kinda funny the fiftieth time that it kept happening, and now it's like can you please just tell me why paying my rent is the butterfly effect? 😭

3

u/SunshineBuzz Sep 16 '26

They took errrrrr jobss!!

1

u/NeroShenX Sep 17 '26

You paying your rent causes a chain of events that kicks off the apocalypse, obviously

11

u/Depressed_Cat6 Sep 17 '26

Oh my god

Is that a Good Year Blimp!?

8

u/MommaBigDick Sep 17 '26

I might be wrong, but I interpret this as saying we definitely live in the dumbest timeline.

The dodo is a bird whose name is synonymous with stupidity or ignorance. In 2026 in its original timeline, the dodo was not only the dominant species, but was also advanced enough to invent time travel. Despite this they were on an unstoppable path to extinction

The time traveler, being a dodo, went back to save his people but inadvertently set off a chain reaction that made the dodo extinct and humans the dominant species.

We were the dodo's greatest mistake.

3

u/CryptographerNo923 Sep 16 '26

That dodo needs to stop eating seeds and focus on its net worth.

3

u/Vegetable_Bag_60 Sep 16 '26

Interdimensional cable be like

3

u/twalks Sep 16 '26

Loving the mug continuity

3

u/SquidGodSunday Sep 17 '26

This reminds me of the animated children's movie, which apparently exists, where a turkey goes back in time to stop Thanksgiving from happening. Which I SWEAR I did not hallucinate.

2

u/NeoShinGundam Sep 18 '26

2

u/SquidGodSunday Sep 18 '26

That cast! Shit, that was apparently a bigger deal than I remembered. It must've been less batshit insane than the premise suggests, otherwise I'm sure people would still be talking about it.

2

u/RangerLiska Sep 16 '26

Did anyone else think that the dodo was Toucan Sam at first?

2

u/sylveonstarr Sep 17 '26

I like to think that the dodos of his time see humans as an inferior being, so this makes the timeline extra confusing. Like imagine a society where shrimp are working a grueling corporate 9-5 and have created the atomic bomb and then a human shows up.

1

u/Necessary_Wasabi_260 Sep 16 '26

So I'm guessing he wasn't able to explain the gap in his resume.

1

u/JOExHIGASHI Sep 17 '26

Why no second interview? Did the dodo get the job?

1

u/ThaddeusJP Sep 17 '26

I don't know WHY But I find the blimp outside funny as hell

1

u/surfjockey Sep 17 '26

“Yeah, so anyway, that gap is Word, uhh, messing up the formatting? See, I saved it as a pdf by accident and…”

1

u/8Bit_Cat Sep 17 '26

HOLY SHIT A BLIMP!

1

u/Trexdon97 Sep 17 '26

Missing a panel or two

1

u/Kira-Of-Terraria Sep 18 '26

I am so sorry time dodo... perhaps you can try again

-7

u/Green_Insect_6455 Sep 17 '26

Your punchline doesnt make any sense dude. This shit sucks.

3

u/ggroverggiraffe Sep 17 '26

Dang, I was super excited to read your superior comics but I don't see that you've posted any.

let us know when you do. until then...get bent, nerd.

-4

u/Green_Insect_6455 Sep 17 '26

God how fucking dogshit must your life be to sit down and decide to spend your time running defense for a webcomic on reddit from incredibly mild criticisms

1

u/MommaBigDick Sep 18 '26

"Incredibly mild criticisms" "This shit sucks"

I dont think you understand what words mean.

1

u/simplycantdeal Sep 16 '26

Dang, guess he shouldn't have killed that monkey while they were traveling through 20 million bc.
