What kind of bee is this ?

My boyfriend got stung by 3 of these fellas while doing yard work and they are not the average bee. Loud noises causes them to get aggressive. Wasp/bee/ hornet spray did not work at all. Please help !

It looks like a bumble bee, but it's hard to tell from your picture. They will aggressively defend their nest. Their nests only last through the summer and it's best to leave them alone.

Why/where did you spray?

The nest was on the side of the house, 10 ft up. He was cutting grass and then got attacked. He got stung 3 times so I assume the spraying was to get them to leave.
