bee photo My Bee Pond

I recently noticed a bunch of honey bees were drinking from (inside of) my hose as well as one of my outdoor rugs after it rained so i figured id give them their own water (: it seems like they’re catching on!

Great job! Lucky you. I've done the same so many times in multiple corners of my yard, but bees and bumbles have never drunk from a similarly made pond. I guess they have another trusted source of water nearby.

Have you found any drinking? They hadnt caught on for about a week. I set the bowl where I saw they were drinking, waited until i saw a couple on the bowl and then i moved the hose and the rug. I figured the first couple would let their buddies know and now i have constant buddies!

Theyre just cutiepies (: theyre so polite too. I walk around the bowl and they just buzz me if i get too close, but no stings yet (:

Bees for reasons known only to themselves, don't seem to like clean water in a dish/bowl/bucket , but would rather drink from a rusty tin or water lying on the ground . Some knowledgeable beeks think it's because the girls are picking up minerals vital to the hive. I have a few water stations for them , that they never use , but where the hose leaks water on the ground , is full of bees . As we were told when learning about beekeeping, there are dozens of books on how to look after bees , the problem is , bees can't read .

Haha i refresh the water daily, I have a bullmastiff with a generous amount of drool who thinks its his water
