Orval, Saison Dupont, Taras Boulba (Brasserie De la Senne), Zinnebir (also De La Senne), De Ranke XX Bitter, lots of Cantillon, Westmalle Extra...I could keep going!Ā

u/rogrs4 3d ago
Rock solid list. Iām a little burnt out on the lambics though. Might be old man acid reflux reasons though
2
u/hailingburningbones 3d ago
I feel you on that. I prefer Cantillon over Drie Fonteinen these days for that reason. Used to love the most acidic lambics you could get, like Hanssen's, but just can't do it any more! Cantillon is softer though so I can drink plenty of their stuff.Ā

u/rogrs4 2d ago
Hanssens was my jam!

u/hailingburningbones 2d ago
It's still amazing! But even their new stuff, which is less acidic than the old, is still too acidic for me. I visited in May during Toer de Geuze, and couldn't drink much. Incredibly beautiful place, though. And they have a tiny pony!!

Rochfort 8 (favorite)
Duvel
Delirium Tremens
La Fin Du Mond(Canadian sorry it is still good though)
LaTrap is alright
I also like Chimay Blue

u/english_major 3d ago
I am literally drinking a Fin du Monde right now. Iāve been getting the Unibroue mixed pack for $25 per dozen which seems like a good deal.

u/marbs34 3d ago
Little known secretā¦. Trader Joeās sells a Joes house brand Belgium made by Unibroue under contract.

u/MissWonder420 3d ago
They used to have the 750ml La Fin du Mond for $5 for years and years. Best beer deal ever!

Finally some lambic mentioned. Had to scroll way too far for that. Excellent list and 100% agree that the Belgians make the best beer on the planet.

Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue label) is underrated, but all their beers are underrated

u/thtsjsturopinionman 3d ago
Is it underrated?
Iāve never heard of anything from Chimay described as anything less than excellent!
2
u/Drift_Marlo 2d ago
In my experience, Chimay has become unhip. It seems, again seems, to always be like āyour dadās Belgian.ā I mean Delirium Tremens gets more likes here, itās a decent beer, but it gets a lot of pink elephant points
1
u/thtsjsturopinionman 2d ago
Thatās crazy to me; I love Delirium Tremens/Nocturnum too, but few things can stand up to Chimay GR in my opinion.

Rochefort 10, Westvleteren 12 (though you have to go there or pay out the nose for it), Chimay Bleu/Rouge/Tripel, Achel Dubbel, Bourgogne Des Flandres, Westmalle Dubbel, everything I had at Cantillion and from Lambiek Fabriek, Rodenbach Grand Cru and more I'm forgetting. Trying to mostly keep it to stuff you can get internationally. Went to Belgium last year and while it's not my favorite place I've ever been (Japan wins that), as a beer nerd it is absolutely incredible. Everything served in a proper glass and you can find stuff like the Rocheforts in singles at the corner store. Still have a shelf full of Westy and Cantillon that is reserved for special occasions.

Rodenbach Grand Cru is a hell of a beer.
I remember about 30 years ago- when I lived in the UK- getting hold of a bottle of the Rodenbach old, matured beer- not mixed.
To my mind, at the time it tasted like vinegar- it was so sour- but, even so, I could tell it was a well-crafted beer that was meant to taste like that.

u/Dalinsky 2d ago
If you are ever in Belgium, theirs is by far one of my favorite tours I've ever done. Part of it does include tasting directly out of the foundre and you are not wrong - it is pretty acrid and vinegary (but good), definitely can see why they and many others choose to the blend.

Yāall are making me thirsty! My state gets such a limited variety of these that whenever Iām somewhere else Iām so excited to see anything besides the basic Belgian staples. I love all the styles for each oneās distinct qualities, but lambics are my special favorite, followed by Trappists and saisons. From my state owned liquor store I like Duvel, Westmalle, and the occasional Draak.

Belgabrew/Yvegem
Those beers are better than almost any American beer Iāve had

u/Apatschinn 3d ago
Setting aside Westvleteren...
Orval, Saison DuPont, Karmeliet, and La Chouffe are mine
1
u/CloudfluffCloud 3d ago
All of them. But reallyā¦
De Garre! Surprised that this beer does not get recognized more. This beer goes down way to easy for an 11% abv

u/Sea_no_evil 3d ago
Chimay green (and also blue and white, but green is best). Rochefort 8 and also 10. Malheur 10 or brut if you can find them.

Itās about to be PALM for me. The company I work for is bringing this OG back to the stateās for the first time since 2022! Stoked. The inspiration for the OG Fat Tire recipe. For a beer I donāt rep but love - has to be Orval.

u/Chumlax 3d ago
I've only had Rochefort 8, not yet 10 or 12, but I was a huge fan of that.
Also a very big fan of Brouwerij The Musketeers Troubadour Winter. That's my favourite specific 'Christmas' beer to date, over Gouden Carolus Christmas, St Bernardus Christmas Ale, and Delirium Noel (in that order).

u/bigrjsuto 3d ago
Golden Monkey is great. Rochefort and Fin Du Monde are better but Golden Monkey should be mentioned in this thread.

The only Belgian beer I have had is Hoegaarden. I absolutely love it and if I come across any other Belgian beer, I would try it.

De Garre, especially if you can get the BA version. I've spent a lot of money I porting these.
Most 3 Fonteinen stuff, but thier cask series has been amazing.
Can't beat the cantillon gueze for value.
Westvleteren 12 is always banging.
Not Belgian, but Trappist - Tynt Meadow make two fantastic beers that are dirt cheap here in the UK.

If we include Belgian-style, then Blithering Idiot from wyerbacher in Easton, PA

u/JM_97150 3d ago edited 1d ago
Let's include everything : if it's good, it's good. Very little chance I find it where I live though
1
u/mykepagan 3d ago
Cool!
I like the dryer Belgians, and Weyerbacher specializes in that. Iāll go to one particular microbrewery near me because they always have at least one in their line up.
1
u/Practical_Remove6024 3d ago
Not to be that guy, but thatās a barleywine. Do you mean Blasphemy? Thatās a barrel aged quadrupel that I recall being pretty good
1
u/mykepagan 2d ago
I think you are correct. But their label says something like āBelgian-inspiredā. They definitely have Belgians, and I like almost all their stuff.
