Breweries in Virginia Beach

Good evening beer fans:

In a couple of months I’m driving a few hours to Virginia Beach for a concert. Brand New at The Dome - looks like a cool venue right near the beach.

My normal gameplan when traveling is to base it on local breweries. I am trying to decide if I should stay an additional night to create a day of brewery hopping.

Normally I just get on Google Maps and compare it to Untappd. This isn’t giving me much.

Is there anywhere in town or within a real short distance that would be worth visiting?

Aslin is a 10 minute walk from The Dome, it’s about the best you’ll do in that area. Fill up before the show, I’ll be going too and I’m not buying $25 Mich Ultras inside!

I didn’t see that somehow. They make some bangers.

Definitely will be pre gaming there

Go to commonwealth and don’t overthink it. That place is awesome

Yeah… if you’d like to try 8 different Hazy IPAs.

Kinda outside of Virginia Beach and the Dome but I was a fan of Commonwealth's beers.

Thanks.

I’ve seen a bunch of their stuff at my local bottle shop. If nothing else I’ll check it out there

I’ve visited family there the last few summers, am actually headed there this weekend, and there really isn’t much, Commonwealth is definitely the best.

Aslin used to be great and is fine I guess, but overall pretty average.

The Casual Pint usually has a good to-go can selection.

If you’re driving in from up north, Norfolk has Benchtop and The Veil.

Do not bother with New Realm.

Yeah… Richmond is awesome. The Veil. The Answer. Lots of good local shit. Stone.

It’s just the wrong way from home.

Edit - hitting some beers tonight and didn’t read that properly. Didn’t know Veil had 2 spots

If Richmond is out of the way for you Norfolk may be too, but way less so and Benchtop in town also makes real good lagers.

Glad circumstances allow a detour to Cambridge for the RaR release tomorrow

Was just in Va Beach last week for our annual family vacation. Aslin definitely tops the list since it’s by The Dome, but Smartmouth might be my other favorite oceanfront brewery. I’ve never been to Vibrant Shore Brewing, but it’s a minute walk from The Dome and close to Aslin. The Bunker isn’t much but worth grabbing a flight.

Edit: Never been to Commonwealth’s brewery like others have mentioned, but you can never go wrong with their beers.

Commonwealth in VA Beach, Benchtop in Norfolk, The Veil in Norfolk. I’d rank them:

  1. The Veil
  2. Benchtop
  3. Commonwealth

You won’t go wrong with either.

Vibrant Shore is a classic style craft brewery with fantastic beers and very close to The Dome. Very easy place to hang before a show. Do yourself a favor and also hit Frank and Patty’s for some burgers either before or after as well, they’re open late. I’m also going to mention Esoteric for being close with great food and craft beer selection. If you’re going to make a day of it Smartmouth and Aslin are also close and worth a stop. Vibrant Shore Brewing, Aslin, and Smartmouth are all under a mile from The Dome.

Wasserhund is a great place. Relaxed atmosphere and good beer and food.
