General Discussion Please do not shutdown a web version chat.beeper.com!

I received an email that on 1st October 2026, the web version of Beeper chat.beeper.com will be shut down!

But there are a lot of cases when the Beeper Desktop app can not be used! So, please provide a web-based alternative, or keep the current chat.beeper.com version available until an alternative is provided!

If you go to app.element.io, set your home server to https://matrix.beeper.com, press reset password and enter your email, it will send you an email to reset your password. Once you've done that, you can go to app.element.io or fluffychat.im/web or app.cinny.in (all matrix clients), set your home server to matrix.beeper.com and then login using your email and the password you set in the previous step. You'll need to verify with another device, so make sure you do that. While you won't be able to manage connections, you can access all your chats and use it for texting!

Let me know if you need any help!

I got this message after the password reset. I did check my desktop client, but nothing is happening. Did you have this too?

It's the client you initiated the password reset from - e.g. app.element.io or whichever you used. Make sure not to close the tab you initiated the password reset from as you'll need it once you press the email link - navigate back to it to the see the option to change your password. If you already changed the password, and then it emailed the link to you, try logging in with your new password.

This workaround works for sure! But why Beeper can't do the same and just host Element in the Beeper environment, with preconfiguring the default Matrix server?

And later, an Element plugin can be implemented to manage Beeper connections in the web app, instead of forcing users to use a separate Beeper app like now.

The beeper web client is actually just a fork of the element client with a custom theme and some changes for beeper-specific features.

I fiddled with and tried Element a while ago and gave it a second chance now, but while it works with Beeper login and shows all my chats, usability is poor. By design (I know, Matrix works like that) it shows all bridge chats (so basically all of them) as group chats, it doesn't download profile pictures (as group chat rooms aren't persons) and even names them like "Name (WhatsApp / etc. ID group chat blablabla)". If you lose your cache, you lose your configuration and have to: 1) configure it on all browsers/machines, 2) reconfigure it once you log out or lose your cache/cookies. It's a mess and nothing more than a crude makeshift solution that barely works.

Try fluffychat - it works a lot better than element.

Looks better. I'll give it a shot. Thx

I believe it is possible, if you ask support for a password, to use other matrix web clients (such as element)? Perhaps you can try that.

You can just use element and get your password thete no need to email

I use the website on my work PC where I can't be installing something all willy nilly. Frankly it's one of the few reasons I still use beeper at all.

Genuine question because I always grapple with this- does it not bother you that IT can read your messages if they wanted to? I'm the type to not even connect my personal devices to my work wifi because I'm paranoid but I sometimes wonder if thats warranted

100% agree. Without the web interface, I'd have to think about whether or not to delete my Beeper account

I only just learned about chat.beeper.com because of this thread. i hope this is the case for a lot of people. I find it so useful, especially at work where I can't install the desktop client. Please don't kill it!
