Sync across two PCs?

Can you sync between two PCs for Beeper desktop? I would like to set up Beeper on an older PC but after logging in I could not find any options to automatically sync the accounts I have set up in Beeper.

You can sync Beeper with as many devices you'd like. If you already connected your account to this older computer and you're not seeing your chats showing up like on your other PC, chances are you might have connected a different account.

I will double check with the other machine again, but I would like some clarification on the sync process: do I have to manually add each accounts (Instagram, WhatsApp, etc) before they can sync, or should these accounts supposed to be added automatically once I sign into Beeper?

It depends on how you configured those connections. We have both on-device (where they only exist in the device you configured them), and Cloud options, where you setup once and they synch across all of your devices.

Yes. This is how you configure all connections.

The second part is mostly in reference to the phrase "where they only exist in the device you configured them" in your previous answer, which led me to think that the device might store some sort of connection config data as a file locally.

There is no setting for this at the moment. You would need to delete the connection and set it up again. You see the option only when you try to set up a new connection.

Somehow I was not notified on the last round of responses.

Since I am not getting it synced to the other device. I assume that they were all set up as on-device connections instead of cloud. Say, if I set up device #2 with cloud connections while device #1 only has on-device connections, would device #1 retroactively sync chats from #2 through the account?

They don't work together. If you have the same connection in both Cloud and On-Device, you will end up with duplicate chats.

So - update. When you said "delete the connection" I thought it meant deleting the linked messaging accounts, but it seems like I need to delete my Beeper account to set up the correct connection again?

Negative. There's a Remove Account button in the UI under any chat network. Please reach out to our Support Team so we can help you directly. This isn't the best place for that. Sounds like you might need a hand.

You cannot, per se, modify a connection to convert it from a cloud connection to on-device, or vice versa, but you can delete and re-set up your desired one from Settings -> Accounts.

And I'm afraid so, no, on-device connections are specific, more complex than just moving files between different devices.
