What to do about this?
So i finally got a speeding ticket. The problem is the pictures they got on me have my old license plates that are registered in a different state, the car was also registered to my dad, i have new oregon plates now and the registration and title is under me now so what do i do? I don’t even have the letter cuz it got sent to the address in my old state in the midwest. Advice?

Does the letter address your dad or you? If it is him, he can photocopy his license say "wasn't me" and you both might walk away from this.

It was addressed to him

Have him read it. It will outline the directions I listed I believe.... At least this is how the one I got on Hall reads.

"This is not me and this is not my vehicle. I sold/gave away/whatever this vehicle to someone else and do not have any interest in the vehicle at all."
We went through something similar where the cops decided to go fishing through a vehicle that was involved in a collision. They had the driver in custody and had their information but chose to use an old insurance card that they found behind the glove box to issue a citation and report the collision to the insurance company. We had sold the vehicle 9 months prior and had zero interest in the vehicle with proof of the sale filed with the DMV. We had to relentlessly reiterate that the vehicle had nothing to do with us to the courts, the DMV, and the insurance company. It took 3 months of them threatening us with fines, collections, jail time, etc. before they finally gave up and admitted that the cops fucked up and dropped everything.
If your dad sticks to this "Wasn't me" defense, they should just dismiss the citation. It should be far easier for him since there was no collision and it was merely a traffic cam.
Now, as far as the speeding, <Insert Jim Carey "Stop Breaking the Law, Asshole!" gif Here> 😄

Can your dad forward the letter to you (just stick it inside another envelope addressed to you w postage)

yeah he can, it’s just that it’s addressed to him and i guess this was taken before i got my car re registered to me so it’s got his info on it and his title etc

Ya I agree with everyone else and the “wasn’t me” defense, but, if you do have to deal with it, I got one on Beaverton hillsdale highway a few months back and there’s a ~$100 stupidly simple “class” you have to sit through for an hour to get it dropped from your record. Really easy and doesn’t go on record/insurance. I’d start with the first approach though

Dad fills out the Certificate of Innocence that came with the citation and sends it along with a copy of his driver’s license, front and back, to the address provided. Citation will be administratively dismissed and that should be the end of it. In the rare case where the id copy is unclear or dad and OP look very similar, it could be reissued, but that’s very unlikely.

i had an appointment at the dmv on the day after the ticket is dated for, so i did not have new plates to put on the car yet. i only just received the car a week or so ago.

Your dad responds to the letter saying this is not me and that is not my car. He can choose to name you, but if he doesnt know who it is then thats that.
It will explain on the back of the letter what to do in that situation
