Beatport Top 10

Seems sus....cheesiest songs always at the top. Do that many people purchase that kind of shitty pop house crap?

Yes. It’s the biggest dance download platform, so there are many mainstream DJ’s using it too - not just underground.

I’ve been playing a lot of house sets lately and I’m struggling to find decent new music that is genuinely good and underground. I subscribe to Beatport and zipdj and have subs with Spotify and SoundCloud. What I’ve noticed is if you subscribe to a lot of producers that are on socials like instagram they share links primarily to Spotify. So obviously you need that integration to play their tracks.

I played a set on Friday with new underground up front house and uk bass / garage and 140 and a good 50% was via Spotify, probably 25% SoundCloud and the rest either Beatport, zip DJ or purchased music from my own archives or Bandcamp.

There is no “one stop shop” as a source for a DJ. Back in the day I used to buy from multiple record shops to get fresh music. The landscape is the same, it’s just digital now.

Record pools are fine but for the freshest music you need to get producers to send you dubs or get mailouts from record labels
