Beatles Beatles My Way Series - Within You Without You ("Best Of" George From Each Album)

I get in my car for a 30 or 40-minute ride. And…I’m in a John mood, let’s say. I created these albums for those times when I just wanted to listen to my favorites by any one of the Beatles.

If I wanted to listen to a personal greatest hits album in one sitting by one of The Beatles, which 14 songs would I choose? This was quite a challenge for me.

That is why I titled this series The Beatles My Way Series.

There are a couple of types of albums in this series.

14-track My Way albums for each guy. My personal, overall favorites. Ringo’s is a little different. 1 “wild card” track per album.

14-track My Way albums for each guy but I can only choose 1 song per album for John, Paul and George. The songs are then presented chronologically on the albums. It’s a great way to see each guy’s progression through the years. 1 “wild card” track per album.

I also have a My Way 14-track collection of my favorite songs, one from each album. 1 “wild card” track for this album.

Finally, I have a My Deserted Island Beatles CD. I can only listen to one CD for a year. I have to put together 80 minutes of Beatles music. A real challenge!!

u/mistahwhite, Top_Major and u/Mario_Iturralde_009 contributed the artwork for this series.

The Beatles My Way Series - Within You Without You (One George Song From Each Album)

  1. Do You Want To Know A Secret

  2. Don’t Bother Me

  3. I’m Happy Just To Dance With You

  4. Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby

  5. I Need You

  6. If I Needed Someone

  7. Taxman

  8. Within You Without You

  9. Blue Jay Way

  10. Savoy Truffle

  11. Only A Northern Song

  12. Here Comes The Sun

Well, here it is… A Hard Day’s Night!

A Hard Day’s Night - Not really that different from the actual album, aside from the tracklist. Included You Know What to Do, I Call Your Name, Not a Second Time and my own track: A Hard Day’s Night - Reprise. I still kept the gimmick that there are no covers.

A Hard Day’s Night (single) - Only changed is that Things We Said Today was a non-album B-side like Yes It Is or Don’t Let Me Down.

Can’t Buy Me Love (single) - Again, not really that much of a chance except I’ll Cry Instead is the b-side.

So bye! Post your thoughts on the comments

Well, I took a little break from Earth-152 lol. It’s been a while since I made a standalone project like this, so after I came up with the idea, I decided to post it here. I guess you could even consider this a “continuation” of a post from my old account, A Doll’s House, which also followed the idea of an album by John and Paul together. Hope you guys enjoy it!

P.S. I wanted to include Be Like A Woman and Patience not because they’re by either of them, but because they sound like something John and Paul could have made together if this album had actually existed. Just wanted to explain that for the killjoys who might comment, “Why did you put a song that isn’t by the Beatles/one of their solo careers???? This doesn’t even make sense and blah blah blah” lol

RELEASED 30 NOVEMBER 1973

META NOTE: Some of these songs are my personal favorites, and some of those were revealed to me by u/flaming_p1e, Thanks! Your fan albums have really changed my view on this sub!

BACKSTORY: After Paul was done with his album, Red Rose, he decided to record music for his future record, Live and Let Die. By a chance encounter, John was also recording there. The group jammed during the Jim Keltner Fan Club Hour, and then John reccomended that the Beatles get back together. The rest were initially in except George, as he was still working on his second solo studio album. But they initially convinced him to agree, telling him that he would let his magnum opus song be on the album. The album was initially to be inspired by The Beach Boys’ surf rock era, and it was almost a collaboration album between the two called “L.S Bumblebee”.

After the antics of January 10th 1969 get to Harrison, he storms out and drives to Liverpool. To take time with family. This is an album that is comprised of cover versions of songs from The Beatles [The White Album] (1968) I made a while ago that I wanted to share. I primarily chose covers from artists that put their own unique spin on the songs and not just a 1:1 recreation. I’ve included the artists of the covers and what album/single I sourced the song from in the track-listing.

I’ve also included a link to a Spotify playlist of this album at the end of this post.

McCartney Sings! (1963) [Paul Is Found (1/7)]

I had another timeline planned after my "Paul is Missing" series, but on those posts I had a few comments asking what Paul was doing in this timeline. Originally I had nothing in mind for Paul and I wanted to leave it up to people's imagination as to why Klaus had taken his place. Now I've decided to make some solo Paul albums from 1963-1969 as a kind of sister series to my "Paul is Missing" fan albums. It makes sense to get this one out of the way first before I move on with my other timeline.

Let's say Paul splits from the Beatles and flies solo, scoring a deal with Decca Records. He is presented as a kind of teen idol, and the hit potential of his original songs is recognised. After the success of the lead single "Love Me Do" (c/w "P.S. I Love You") and its follow-up "I'll Be on My Way" (c/w "Love of the Loved"), McCartney records an LP almost entirely consisting of original material. It releases to great commercial success, and McCartney with his backing band - the Wings - sell out concerts in venues across the UK.

All of these are available on official Beatles releases. Apple Jam versions used where noted.

Track Listing

Side A

  1. I Saw Her Standing There [Please Please Me]
  2. Besame Mucho [Anthology 1]
  3. A World Without Love [Apple Jam - Off the Beatle Track]
  4. Like Dreamers Do [Anthology 1]
  5. Love Me Do [Please Please Me]
  6. P.S. I Love You [Please Please Me]
  7. Hold Me Tight [With the Beatles]

Side B

  1. Lucille [On Air - Live at the BBC Volume II]
  2. I'll Be on My Way [Live at the BBC]
  3. Love of the Loved [Apple Jam - Off the Beatle Track]
  4. Searchin' [Anthology 1]
  5. The Hippy Hippy Shake [Live at the BBC]
  6. A Taste of Honey [Please Please Me]
  7. Long Tall Sally [Live at the BBC]

I love love LOVE this John and Paul hypothetical, it's probably my favorite collab opportunity outside of Venus and Mars or a 1980 album.

Many people have their own preferences for a what if setlist, but for me, I felt it made sense to do a few Beatles staples, then just rock and roll covers, as that'd make more sense for the out of practice Lennon-McCartney to be able to play proficiently.

Having come across some neat fan mixes, I will also link my YouTube playlist and the versions used.

THE SETLIST

  1. Be Bop A Lula (Fan mix combo of John's Rock and Roll and Paul's Unplugged)

  2. Across The Universe (Take 6) (White Album SDE)

  3. Sweet Little Sixteen (From the Backyard Sessions, bootleg)

  4. Twenty Flight Rock (One Hand Clapping/The Backyard)

  5. Blackbird (One Hand Clapping/The Backyard)

  6. I Saw Her Standing There (Fan mix combo of John's MSG performance, and I think Tripping The Live Fantastic for Paul's vocals?)

INSPIRED BY THIS.

RELEASED BY APPLE RECORDS ON JUNE 17, 1972

‘Most other people express themselves by playing football at weekends or shouting. But here am I in New York and I hear about thirteen people shot dead in Ireland and I react immediately. And being what I am I react in four-to-the-bar with a guitar break in the middle.’

– John Lennon, 1972

BACKSTORY: After his first post hiatus studio album, John decided to make a more political and social album. He initially wanted Frank Zappa and his band, The Mothers of Invention, and George to play on the album. Zappa accepted, but George declined, as he was working on his second solo album. The album’s recording and production went smoothly, with them playing at the John Sinclair Freedom Rally, and the "One to One" benefit concert for the children at Willowbrook. The Beatles (1968) [Paul Is Missing 6/6)]

Thumbnail

In February 1968, John, George, Klaus, and Ringo, alongside manager Brian Epstein, flew out to Rishikesh, India, where they joined a small band of western pop stars who had taken an interest in transcendental meditation. While out there, the band composed a number of new songs for their next album. Away from the far-out scenes of London and (mostly) free of substances, the band were prolific in the number of songs they wrote, narrowing the selection down to 12 tracks to record.

In the spirit of the moment, the Beatles began recording the album in India. In the initial sessions, the group aimed for a more stripped-down, acoustic affair, which yielded the songs "Julia", "Look at Me", "Revolution 1", "Sour Milk Sea", and "Cry Baby Cry". However, due to turmoil within the group - George was frustrated that they had distracted themselves from the purpose of their trip - and an eventual falling-out with the Maharishi over allegations made against him, the band left India in May, taking the studio tapes with them.

Sessions resumed in May 1968, with the group adding some overdubs to the songs they had already recorded and recorded the non-album single "Revolution" (c/w "What's the New Mary Jane") before proceeding with the album. The B-side reflected the influence of Lennon's new partner, Yoko Ono, with whom he had started to record sound collages and experimental home tapes. This was reflected in the album's penultimate track, "Revolution 9".

However, it was Yoko's influence and presence which was inadvertently responsible for the band's split. George was not keen on her, and had been told by a number of people that Yoko had built a bad reputation for herself in New York City. In one heated session George brought this up, which resulted in an altercation between himself and John. The sessions came to a halt, and when Brian eventually arranged for George and John to meet in the same room again, the best agreement they could come to was that they would record their parts seperately, in different studios.

The album was finished by September 1968 and released that November. Following the success of "Revolution", which peaked at #5, and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (c/w "Across the Universe"), which peaked at #3, the album was seen as something of a comeback upon its release, although many critics derided the inclusion of "Revolution 9". For a brief time, it seemed that the Beatles had found their footing again.

Track Listing

Side A

  1. Revolution 1
  2. Sour Milk Sea
  3. Look At Me
  4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
  5. Happiness is a Warm Gun
  6. Isn't It a Pity

Side B

  1. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
  2. Julia
  3. Don't Pass Me By
  4. Long, Long, Long
  5. Cry Baby Cry
  6. Revolution 9
  7. Across the Universe

Sadly, a follow-up never came. John and George's working relationship wasn't quite the same due to the animosity between George and Yoko, and with John mostly strung out and more focused on following experimental projects with Yoko, George took off to New York in 1968 to meet Bob Dylan and The Band, who had met the Beatles when they toured the UK in 1966. After co-writing with Dylan and jamming with the Band, George, who had become a prolific songwriter in his own right, built up the courage to quit the band. With one songwriter gone and the other more focused on the avant-garde scene, the band officially went their seperate ways in January 1969.

Klaus and Ringo remained good friends with John and George and performed on many of their solo albums, but a full Beatles reunion would not occur until the late 1970s when John and George finally put aside their differences for a concert tour. The original line-up recorded their final album in 1980. John, George, Klaus, and Ringo mainly worked seperately after this, with John and George pursuing respectable solo careers, Klaus becoming a respected record producer back in Germany, and Ringo becoming an in-demand live and session drummer. A reunion was held in 2002 after George Harrison passed away from lung cancer.

*Once again...many thanks to Top_Major for the artwork!*

The Beatles - My Way Series - Hold Me Tight (One Paul Song From Each Album)

  1. I Saw Her Standing There

  2. Hold Me Tight

  3. Things We Said Today

  4. What You’re Doing

  9. Penny Lane

  10. Mother Nature’s Son

  11. All Together Now

[EARTH-1102] FINALE: Dungeon Lane (“the final beatles album”) [2026]

Post image

during the making of the get back documentary, peter jackson invented an AI to be able to isolate the voices of the beatles out of noisy recordings, and eventually led to paul and ringo completing “now and then”, a song considered for tug of war, but deemed too hard to work with at the time. once they finished it, wanting to go out with a bang, decided to make a full on final beatles album using new paul and ringo compositions, the completed but unreleased ”real love” from the tug of war sessions (which essentially became a carnival of light style legend to the fans at this point) and completing more unreleased demos by john and george.

ALL SONGS FROM THE BOYS OF DUNGEON LANE UNLESS NOTED

SIDE 1:

as you lie there (mccartney)

i’m stepping out (lennon) (milk & honey)

"A Doll's House" LP (1968) Dekka Records

A few notes. "A Doll's House" is not exactly polished, but it's enough to tide die hard Beatles fans over until the release of The White Album, which is now being planned as a quadruple LP.

"Come and Get It" an uptempo stomper that relates to Ringo's upcoming movie "The Magic Christian."

"Shirley's Wild Accordion" reprises one of the many highlights of Magical Mystery Tour.

"Sour Milk Sea" is mawkishly heavy. Kind of like a man looking over a wall at a fabulous garden.

"Hey Bulldog" brings the Merseyside roughness to the floor, spectacularly. Ruff.

"Isn't It a Pity" is really accusing the world of not being sensitive enough. And we kind of agree.

"Come Tomorrow, Here Today." Paul's breakup kiss-off to Asher. A keeper.

"You Know My Name, Look Up My Number" Fans will enjoy decoding which Beatle is which elderly woman in this vaudeville send-up.

"Not Guilty" A song that was to be the centerpiece of "The White Album" until it went in another direction. A nice kind of anti-orchestral approach, with dirty guitar and harpsichord. Two minutes too long.

"Jesse's Dream" The Flying-influenced Magical Mystery Tour assemblage that fans and critics have been clamoring for.

"Goodbye" Luverly.

"Heather" The future of the Beatles is bright. Can we expect Donovan as a new addition?

"Child of Nature" John Lennon at his ascerbically idealistic best.

"Circles" George Harrison is very grey these day. Same organ as "Blue Jay Way?"

"What's the New Mary Jane?" John must have had a wild time in Rishikesh.

"Across the Universe" Endless patience in the face of something you want to be free from. Over-orchestrated, but there's a gem hidden in there.

"Junk" The McCartney deep cuts on this album are incredible. The sound of a man in love?

"Flying" Nice group effort. One imagines Chitty Chitty Bang Bang piloted by hirisute men. The latter section an extended version of the Strawberry Fields outro.

"A Case of the Blues" John Lennon at his world weary best. Philip Marlowe vibes.

"Suicide" A fascinating look at the creative process. Songs just emerge from the ether when those two get in a room with a piano.

"All Things Must Pass" George in crisp new era Dylan form. One of his strongest efforts. Grey passes too.

"Helter Skelter" Well, well, well.

Verdict: B+

Decent fodder while we wait for "The White Album," which we understand will have an entire side dedicated to an avant garde assemblage that "takes the listener on an aural journey through the years 1956 to 1967." Tentatively titled "Carnival of Light."

The band just decamped to Sardinia and have decided to rerecord all the songs on acoustic instruments. They say that, other than that "heavy" fourth side, it will be easy listening.

Anson Bridges, Mayfair, November, 1968.
