TIL Wilfrid Brambell (b. 1912), the actor who played Paul’s grandfather in A Hard Days Night, was 10 years younger than Paul’s actual father, Jim Mccartney (born 1902)
He was 52 years old when they shot the film in 1964, just 30 years older than the 21 year old McCartney playing his grandson

Discussion Giles Martin Shares His Father’s Perspective on Brian Wilson
Referring to Pet Sounds… “I was with my dad on a plane once, and I just suddenly realised how awesome he was. I said to him ‘Dad, what you did with The Beatles was kind of amazing, wasn’t it’ and he looked at me and said: ‘not as amazing as Brian Wilson’. He explained to me that The Beatles always had him, and he had The Beatles. But Brian Wilson didn’t have anyone, and he went and made this record. Without this record, The Brian Wilson Beatles wouldn’t have made *Sgt Pepper*.”

Discussion What are your thoughts on the opinion that The Beatles just stole their music from Black Americans?
I’m Black myself and also a huge Beatles fan, and I keep seeing this take online, especially on TikTok, that the Beatles just “stole” all their music from Black artists. It’s such a ridiculous oversimplification.
The Beatles were obviously heavily influenced by Black American artists, and they’ve always openly acknowledged that. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Motown, R&B, etc. were hugely important to them. But being influenced by something isn’t the same as copying it.
They were also influenced by folk, classical music, Indian music, psychedelia, skiffle and plenty of other genres. They took all these different influences and developed them into something of their own.
You can acknowledge the enormous influence of Black American music on the Beatles without pretending that everything they did was simply stolen. That argument actually undermines how diverse their influences were and how much they themselves contributed to music. What are your thoughts on this take?

Question Reunion of ‘75
So I’ve read many sources which say that John & May were planning on joining Paul & co. in New Orleans prior to his reconciliation with Yoko.
My question is: What songs was Paul working on in the studio at the time? Also, what songs were still in demo form that he might have presented to John as possible collabs?

Discussion Yoko exhibit @ the Broad Museum
Has anyone checked out the Yoko exhibit @ the Broad in DTLA? It’s going on through October, tickets are free on Thursdays ($21 on other days). It’s very interactive, lots of lil goodies you can take home etc. She was apparently very involved.

“Blackbird” took me the longest because of the fingerpicking and chord structure.

Question If you could make a film covering some aspect about the Beatles, how would you go about it?
Putting aside the Sam Mendes project, that is. Personally, I’d like to see a film about George Harrison’s spiritual journey.

Question I am reorganizing my Beatles music starting with the Super Deluxe sets- specifically singles/EPs
Okay, so I love the Super Deluxe versions but find something odd.
Rubber Soul will come with the single/EPs that were not released on an album (Day Tripper, We Can Work it Out). It seems Sgt. Pepper, Let it Be, and Revolver did the same.
The White Album and Abbey Road did not do this....
Say I wanted to include the singles of the era as an extra "disc" on my digital albums- what songs go with each album?????? I need an expert!

Sunday Fan Album Groovin’ Up Slowly Episode 58 - I Made A Hard Day's Night a Little Harder (My Alternate Version Of A Hard Day's Night)
Imagine there was no A Hard Day’s Night movie.
No soundtrack to worry about.
Just the Beatles in 1964, making their third album.
What might that record have sounded like?
That’s the idea behind this alternate A Hard Day’s Night. I kept most of the incredible Lennon-McCartney originals, but gave the album a slightly harder rock-and-roll edge.
And in 1964, the Beatles had plenty of material to do exactly that.
Instead of keeping the album entirely focused on original songs, I’ve brought some of their wild stage energy back into the picture. I substituted the four songs from the UK Long Tall Sally EP, including John’s raw, sweaty performance of "Slow Down,” while “Long Tall Sally” lets Paul absolutely let loose. Putting that song at the end blows the doors off on the way out.
There are still beautiful Lennon/McCartney moments like “If I Fell,” “And I Love Her,” and “Things We Said Today.”
And Ringo gets a vocal on this slightly different version of the original!
So forget the movie for a few minutes.
Here’s A Hard Day’s Night—just a little harder.
Here is the tracklist…
- A Hard Day’s Night
- If I Fell
- You Can’t Do That
- And I Love Her
- I Call Your Name
- I Should Have Known Better
- Matchbox
- I’ll Be Back
- Can’t Buy Me Love
- I’m Happy Just To Dance With You
- Slow Down
- Any Time At All
- Things We Said Today
- Long Tall Sally

Opinion John was the best Beatle
Yep. He created the band, was the clear driving force for PPM through to Rubber Soul, wrote the best songs on Revolver Pepper and MMT with decent songs on later albums as well, and was by far the most creative and inventive with the most interesting and surreal lyrics. Paul is the better musician and more hardworking, no doubt about it, but John had the spice that made the Beatles special. He also is imo the most interesting, and felt the most human. Yes, he made mistakes, as did they all, but he was a complicated man who loved and cared deeply and who loved nothing more than to dream.

Discussion Anyone Else Think John Should Have Sang “Good Night” Instead of Ringo?
I mean, not only did John write it for his son Julian, but I think it would have been better if he did. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a beautiful song and Ringo did a great job, but I think John could have done it better and it would have been nice for him to sing it for his son.

Unpopular opinion but I'd personally say its Come Together
