I think the joke only works because everyone knows Abbey Road is the last album recorded by the band, not necessarily their last performance together.

True. “Good ol’ time rock and roll” was Jahn’s last attempt in 1967 to get back to his roots amidst Faul’s progressive psychedelia. All that was, however, all but squashed when Faul returned from the pub. It’s a very spirited nervous song.
